Check out the HTC 10 at Verizon store on Friday!! Anyone?

Agreed. Having an iPhone 6s for work I can attest to that. IPhone is way brighter at 50% than the HTC 10. I like the build quality, but that isn't enough. Also, the auto focus on the camera is much slower than the S7.

Yup, the camera was very finnicky in my hands on. The failure of the camera to auto adjust exposure when manual focusing was very odd. Also, in auto focus, once it found a focus it liked it would hold that exposure no matter what. I took my Note 5 out and it was night and day as far as camera adjusting on the fly.

I didnt get out at lunch (stupid customers). Is it really that bad brightness wise or is it "I put my two phones together and was disappointed" type of a thing? Realize I am going to do the same thing myself; just gauging how you came to determination.

No, it's bad. I didn't even have to put my S7 next to it. I can tell very easily that it was dimmer. It's not an LCD vs AMOLED thing either because there are bright LCDs out there like the iPhone. It's just not that bright.

I just stop by at my local verizon and yeah the screen look dim compare to other phone.. but Good enough for me but the build is good. Camera little bit slow but I think speaker is good.

It's not bad, but it definitely doesn't appear to be 2016 flagship-level. Then again, the G5 looked meager as well.

Something feels off about the screen. Like it's just not a high quality component. Check out Android Police's review and commentary on the screen because that's exactly what I felt when viewing it. Also, while color tint at off angles was not nearly as bad as I was expecting, brightness at angles fell off dramatically. One could say, "well, I don't use my phone like that". But, reading in bed, shooting with camera, etc., you're never perpendicular to the screen. You're generally operating it at some angle.

I'd define the screen as adequate. The brightness reminded me of my Galaxy S4; adequate. I can see this suffering in the sun.

FWIW, I spent a while there, but these are only general observations. Obviously, not in-depth. But, first impressions are a lot.

Just called the local Verizon store, they said they wont have it till maybe next week maybe not. He suggested the "corporate store" 10+ miles away. They of course only have the Verizon service phone number so I cant call the store directly to ask...hmmmm...

Thanks for the input. I appreciate the candidness without the S7 or iPhone reference. I am cutting out of work early (before hitting HH). I hope to be happy but input like this allows me to focus closer.

I am also coming from a 3+ year old LCD phone. So my expectation will probably be less.

550 Level worth maybe?

The screen doesn't look that bad to me to be honest based upon those photos. I only hope that my reference point hasn't changed now that I have been using an S7 for 6 weeks.

No problem! Yeah, just check it out for yourself and be objective. I walked in ready to pull the trigger and walked out appreciating my Note 5 that much more. Reading all the forum and Reddit posts after the HTC 10 announcement makes us a tad jaded. But a hands on or two really says it all for the particular user.

Not sure what's special about this. My credit card works everywhere too. Chipped card. not sure how its less of a hassle to pull out the phone versus pulling out the credit card.

Yeah, that was my line of thinking too. I have used Samsung pay and it works well. Had a few issues with it but overall not bad. At the end of the day I still need to pull something out of my pocket though and regardless, I am always going to have my wallet with me. Maybe this is a must have feature to those people that seem to have their phones glues to their hands :) or just don't have a wallet.

Yup. Don't really see how its any better. Plus, I have to have NFC on all the time don't I? Just one more battery drain.

Sitting in the Verizon parking lot as I type this. Just checked out the 10 (and the G5 - since I hadn't looked at that yet). I honestly thought the 10 was plenty bright for me. I put my iPhone on the table next to it. Loaded up the Google homepage in Chrome on both. Turned them both to about 40-50% brightness. I think the iPhone was a LITTLE bit brighter. But another thing I noticed was that it was much more yellow when compared to the HTC 10. It looked much more like a pure white to me. The build on that phone easily rivaled the iPhone, too. It looked and felt like a very premium device. I tested the camera as much as possible with it being tied to the table. It seemed pretty quick to launch and to take a picture. Pretty similar to my iPhone. It was a little slower to focus and it was kind of annoying that it was difficult to change the focus point when tapping to focus. But it seemed like a pretty solid camera overall.

I left pretty impressed with the HTC 10. I feel like a lot of us are smartphone snobs these days, and are a little too quick to criticize and judge.

Disappointed there is no black option for Verizon.. I wonder if when best buy gets the Verizon version if they will have it as an exclusive.

Three stores; two being Corp stores....no HTC 10. More than willing to show me other phones. Nobody in three stores willing to see if they had the 10 in back or anything...blows.

That stinks!

So I started calling. And all stores point me to "corporate" computer assistance. I did push random non-distinguishing buttons until I got a human being. She was VERY helpful and called stores directly for me. End result the same. One store in the area (not a small town) has one out; but it wont power up. Another will have it delivered on Monday for review.

This is really bad for HTC that Verizon is acting this way....

That kind of thing gets me firing off complaint emails. Totally unacceptable.

Went to store in NYC at lunch. Salespeople had zero info. On the bright side, I was able to demo one of the H10s unmolested for about a half hour. I will get one, but going to sit on fence for black one.

Regards----------

Found a "demo". Wouldn't power up. Feels very good in my hands. A slight "edge" to the button assembly area. A snick thicker and winder than my DNA. Quite a bit taller.

I am tempted to write a email to Verizon. ATT is getting much better and world travel is a lot easier on ATT phones versus Verizon phones. This might be just the kick in the pants I need to move carriers.
