Children and my DX

Just got my Droid X last week and I absolutely LOVE it. Couldn't be happier.

My kids also love it, especially all the coloring pages and Talking apps.

Right now, I have one of those silocone covers, which to me seems to protect the phone pretty well. However, I am very hesitant to let my kids use it (ages 7, 5, and 3) without me hovering over them. They are pretty well behaved kids, but accidents do happen. Am I OK with what I have or should I invest $30 in something like the Trident Kraken? How durable is the phone?

I have a gel case on mine and I allow my two year old to handle it to watch cartoons or play toddler games. It seems to be OK. I think the phone is durable with a little protection.

Well congrats on your new DX! To answer your question, do you have the insurance on the phone? Lol, the silicone should give you a good amount of impact protection against drops. I'm not familiar with the case you mentioned, but get something you are comfortable using. Some of the most protective cases for the X are the otterbox defender and the seidio innocase active or rugged. They have some cushion and hard plastic protection. They are a little more, but offer great protection. It might be worth checking out.

I never trust the durability of a phone because for example, I could drop my phone one way and its fine and you could drop it the same way and the screen could crack. When I picked up my DX about 2 weeks ago I bought the OtterBox Commuter Series Case but then returned it for the OtterBox Defender Series Case so I could have the heavy duty clip. Its a Silicon case over the Droid X then a hard shell over the silicon to give it extra protection.

I highly recommend anything OtterBox as I have not found anything that comes close to the build quality they have. To some people they are a little pricey but I don't mind spending the money on them. Hope that helps answer your question.

O here is OtterBox's main page. :)

Thanks all....I have decided not to pick up insurance for now (have about 21 more days to decide).

The more I think about it, I might go ahead and pick up the case. With a discount code, I see the Trident Kraken is only $27 shipped from their website. The otterbox cases look great, but I like the idea of a built in screen cover.

That's the first I heard of Kraken Case but looks good.
I like the built in screen protector case to that's like my otter box ipod case.I don't like those wrap around type of screen protectors.
I will check into how much this case costs, he forgot to show the camera cover options which I thought he said he was going to do tho,ha

If you do buy the Kraken case, I believe that you are legally required to firmly state, "Release the Kraken!" as you open the box.

I don't even let my wife hold my phone. I have a Kung Fu grip on it....play it safe and get insurance (-:

Seriously though my kid loves the talking apps also. She's still too young so I hold the phone while she presses the screen.

I would get insurance on it.

But if your not too worried about size Outterbox has some good ones. DROID X by Motorola Cases // OtterBox.Com

Defender is one of the best since I have seen people throw their phones at walls and lands on the ground and phone works fine. But it does make the phone a lot thicker.

I have basic Seidio case on my X. A 5-yr-old spent hours playing a paint app and a pool app that she called "bowling". Thought I'd have to do a battery pull when she done, but the X was just fine. Amazing!

My girlfriends 3 year old LOVES the phone and doesn't throw it (seems deja vu) but they are only little once and it is a phone. Let them burger it up mang. (dad of 10+ years)

My 5 and 2 year olds frequently play games on my DX. All I have is a vinyl skin. Never has been an issue.

Now to find some wood to knock on ...
