Choosing the Nexus 5X over the Nexus 6P

Re: Why did you buy or why are you considering the 5X over the 6P?

If only it was that simple. If the two phones had the same internal specs and same features, then your comment would be rational. But they don't, and since the 5x is inferior in those regards, it makes for a tougher decision.

How so? Specs only matte if you are some kind of power user. The 5X is better than the N6, which is what I have now, and the N6 is sufficient. My Moto X is sufficient. My N5 is sufficient.

What need do I have for the specs on the 6P? None. If you have need to have an extra 5 apps open, or you are some kind of hardcore mobile gamer, then maybe.

The camera on a phone is cute and all, but it still won't beat an actual camera. I would go and say that the vast majority of users won't even notice the spec difference. They will notice they are ot carrying around a big brick though.

808 or 810 doesn't matter you won't notice unless you run benchmarks all day, and you'll never use more than 2 gigs the way android is designed to manage memory.

Re: Why did you buy or why are you considering the 5X over the 6P?

Have always been disinterested in larger phones but this choice has me flummoxed. Like many, I'd like the 5X size with 6P specs - in particular AMOLED, stereo, 3gb ram, bigger battery. Indeed, I'd pay the $79 difference to have them in the 5X.

Spent some time looking at the iphone 6S+ which is virtually identical in every dimension to the 6P. Interestingly, the 6S+ is exactly the same width as my current Moto X 2ndG with a Hula bumper. The 6s+ is about 1/2" taller than the X w/bumper - bigger but not a huge difference. I've never had a problem with that width. The height difference might be tolerable.

I love the Moto X, but Moto **** the bed on VZW Marshmallow updates, some I'm looking at Fi to give both the boot. Honestly torn which to choose. May order both so I can make a hands-on, real life usage decision.

That's what I am saying. This phone will be fine.

I'm lost on why people seem genuinely concerned that the 5X is going to be some sub par experience, yet are fully aware of how well the older, slower Nexus 5 still runs. I can't stress enough how much of a difference the 1080p panel makes in regards to these specs. A Snapdragon 808 with 2GB of RAM and a 2700 mah battery on a QHD display would cause me to pause. Those specs with a 1080p display is much, much better. I think a lot of people don't take that into account when they look at the specs of the 5X and see QHD phones with higher clocked, "faster" processors like the 810 and more RAM.

My one and only gripe with the 5X is the memory. I can't really imagine getting by with only 32gb. Even with all of the cloud based options, I'm afraid it's just not gonna work for me. I travel a lot in my job, I take a lot of pictures and video, and I have a lot of entertainment atored on my phone, because of limited internet access. Also I just don't want to have a running charge for extra cloud storage when I already have a SD card I paid an arm and a leg for.

I love LG, and I love the idea of the Nexus phones. I'm just gutted that LG doesn't make Nexus phones with SD slots and removable batteries.

When I bought the Nexus 4 loved me but now seeing the Nexus 6 is very advanced and decorated and I think the nexus will become competitive machine.

I think we can put to rest the idea that the 5x is some sort of vestige from the past or secondary product to the 6p. Why would Google choose to have ads for the 5x and not the 6p on Thursday Night Football? That's an expensive ad spot.

Just being honest Google photos is the reason I can live with 32gb easily.

It's like the Moto G in my opinion. One of the best selling phones in the United States but the forums here are dead regarding because people of these forums love high end and only really talk about the highest of the high end. In the end, I think the 5x will outsell the 6p easily but around here the talk will all be about the 6p because this is where the hardcore people who only want the best are. The masses who just want a good phone will buy the 5x over the 6p so they are advertising it.

Exactly. That and Google Drive for other files eliminates 80% of the storage I actually need.

I would have already bought a Moto G if not for doubts about activating it on a VZW postpaid account. You're spot on, it's a great phone in its own right which doesn't get much attention. Now it looks like the 5X is getting jilted for the 6P.

Re: Why did you buy or why are you considering the 5X over the 6P?

I did order the 5x.

A little backstory -- I've been with Moto for over 5 years, and in general I love what they are doing, but as much as I try I just cannot go with the larger phone. Some of that is because of my job. Working in pretty tight spaces and being "on call" for immediate response the entire time I need quick one-handed usability. I've given serious consideration to the Moto X PE, and my wife has an N6... I just can't make that size work for me.

On the other hand, the 5x is a bit of a "meh" purchase, but I will enjoy having something new. While nothing about it is overly compelling to me, it's more a situation of there being nothing better at the moment. For what is it, I don't think it's an amazing price. The type-C connector will be nice, but will also require I pick up at least one, and probably two, new chargers that as of yet nothing else can use. I'd have felt better with a little more RAM and storage, we'll see how this holds up over two years. I'd also had my heart set on front stereo speakers, so mentally going backwards on that is a little disappointing. The screen and battery will (should?) be fine but obviously nothing groundbreaking there.

The stuff I'm legitimately looking forward to: fingerprint sensor, camera, quick updates.

The more I think about it, I'm really going to miss Moto. The styles available in Moto Maker are *really* nice, and the Assist stuff is really well done. Ahh well, time to move on I guess!

You seriously read my mind!!! I feel the exact same way.

Mostly cause of price. The plastic build isn't so bad. I been running a moto g daily after I left my 16gb galaxy nexus. So the bigger screen would be nice to have and better camera. But for now it's just a thought while I still have my mind on the original nexus 6

It would be fine, if I didn't have that running charge for it. I freelance, so my paycheck varies greatly, and I try to eliminate monthly running costs. I have literally had months where I had to choose between food and keeping my cloudservices going. Therefore I try and eliminate it. And no, I can't get by with all my photos being in "high" quality, so I would have to pay for more storage. But that is my needs, that's not to say it doesn't work for you.

Have you considered installing Drive on your computer, setting Photos to show up in Drive (thus, showing up on your computer) and then moving your photos out of Photos periodically?
