After mulling my options, I have decided to order a pixel 4. After getting reaquainted with my pixel 2 XL I decided I really like the at ci android experience enough to go ahead and buy a pixel 4 even though my galaxy s20 us my current daily driver most of the time.

I know I'll be dropoing off some screen resolution, but not much. Pixel 4 is an OLED display, right? It may not have the vividity of the S20, but I think I like the more natural coloration. Don't get me wrong, S20 is still a great device, but I just love the stock Android experience.

Plus I actually did a picture comparison between my P2 XL and S20 and it seemed the pixel was more true to what you see with your own eyes. S20 seemed to saturate things and give them a more vivid color than they really were. So I am inclined to believe if the pixel 2 XL took quality photos that I like, I can only assume the pixel 4 will do so and even better

I paid $336 for the orange pixel 4, it will be refurbished. Did I get a decent deal?

What can I expect in terms of battery? With my 2xL I could get about 36 hours with 5-6 screen on time on a single full charge. Can I get that with the pixel 4?

Pixel 4 getting an extra year or two of software updates over the S20 also helped sway me into going for it.

I know I already spent $800 in June on my S20, but pure stock Android was just too hard to resist. I may sell my pixel 2 XL and S9+ to more or less recoup what I spent on my pixel 4. If I kept them I'd have way more phones than I can keep up with lol. Plus if someone needed a phone id be able to sell them one without having to charge an arm and a leg.

Great phone and great pride but unfortunately battery is pretty bad on that device. If you can live with the mediocre battery life I'm sure you will enjoy the device bc everything else about it is great.

As long as it isn't Galaxy S6 bad.....

I had the s6 and it's up there with it. Might be a little better but not by much to be honest especially since one of you big focus seems to be the camera which drains a lot of battery. I recommend you go watch some YouTube videos reviews on the pixel 4 (not 4 xl) bc that one had a good battery life.

Ugh yikes, might be tempted to cancel the order then. I remember the s6 being lucky to get 12 hours total and 2.5 hours screen on time. If it isn't much better than that, it might just be a deal breaker for me

That's how the smaller pixel 4 is about 2.5-3 hrs SOT based on usage. Definitely i go check out a few youtube video reviews.

I think I will cancel my order now. The battery is just far too much of a weakness in the review videos. After all, what good do features do if you have to stay tethered to a charger all the time?

Disappointing.

Agreed. That's the only reason that phone got backlash. Otherwise it's amazing. I owner a pixel 4 xl and loved it and had good battery bc it was a much larger battery. Maybe pick up a refurbished 4 xl or is a smaller form factor one of your priorities? I'm using s pixel 5 now and love the amazing 2 day battery life + smaller form factor which I'm appreciating coming from a pixel 4 xl. Not in the same budget as the pixel 4 you ordered though but great reviews for this device especially the battery.

I purchased a P4 from Amazon, renewed, mid October '20. Not a bit disappointed. I have no issues with battery life. I know that's a very user specific detail. In my case, I get at least as much as I always got with my OG Pixel. I rarely have to charge mid day. Only if I spent a lot of time watching video. Usually I am reading or listening, on screen probably 6 hrs average daily. That said, I don't use facial recognition and I don't allow most apps to use background location. Most days when I plug in to charge over night I'm around 50%
Also, buying Amazon "Renewed" gives you 90 days, no questions asked return. It should say that in the listing. Mine was truly like new, no complaints whatsoever.

Grest battery on the 4xl. If you set up your phone with a bit of care, the battery will not be a issue. Consider Greenify and use gsam to look for battery hogs. Also the battery likes the dark theme. If you don't need motion sense, turn it off and finally the AOD is not truly a must have. Good luck! Screenshot_20210105-130101.jpeg

Yeah I have used dark theme on all my devices since they were able to use it and I pretty much never use the always on display function .

I wonder how much more it would cost for a 4XL?

Might try a 4a. Red some reviews, seems fairly solid and I'll get the stock Android experience with at least updates through android 13. Battery-- which is the key for me seems to hold solid in the reviews I've read. What are your thoughts?

I got to thinking with my budget the 4a might be a better but for me than the 4xL. Really don't wanna pay more than $700 at most and with trade in I can get the 4a for like $250.

But again I want to hear from folks here who have had it if they are pleased with the battery.

I've seen new/ open box Pixel 4 on eBay for around $340. Was tempted to get the 4 since it's the same size as the 3 but ended up picking the 4xl for better battery life and the screen. Most reviews agree that the battery life on the smaller 4 is unacceptable and the 4xl will at least get you through the day.
