So I manually updated my GNex because I got tired of checking for the update. Everything went very smoothly and I had not issues. When it booted up after the install however, I still had the default browser from ICS and not chrome on the homepage. I thought that one of the changes in Jelly Bean was using chrome as the default browser. Has this happened to anyone else?

Hmm, maybe it will come out in a later patch, I haven't seen an OTA for a quite a while and just flash the updates and ROMs, but I thought that Chrome would replace the default as well.

See u still have to have your bookmarks for people that get the ota (stock)

Just go in your manage apps and disable browser. It will disable it and make Chrome the default. I did that on after my flash of JB.

I did that and when I re-enabled the Browser, Flash support is gone.
So I would leave it as such and you will have atleast one browser with flash support.

An OTA update would never remove the Browser and replace it with Chrome (why would they do that to people?). The stock Browser will always be there. Chrome is available in the Play Store for your enjoyment, and you can feel free to disable the stock Browser.

Chrome is shipping as the stock browser on the Nexus 7, but that doesn't mean it'll replace Browser (proper) as the stock one on the Galaxy Nexus.

Since the Jelly Bean update, stock browser is much smoother than Chrome.

I deleted Chrome after all.

Thanks for the replies, I just misunderstood that Chrome was just the stock browster on the Nexus 7. It wasn't a big deal, I just wanted to find out

Flash doesn't seem to want to install in JB 4.1.1 for me ... I thought it was no longer going to be supported

Devices that don?t have the Flash Player provided by the manufacturer typically are uncertified, meaning the manufacturer has not completed the certification testing requirements. In many cases users of uncertified devices have been able to download the Flash Player from the Google Play Store, and in most cases it worked. However, with Android 4.1 this is no longer going to be the case, as we have not continued developing and testing Flash Player for this new version of Android and its available browser options. There will be no certified implementations of Flash Player for Android 4.1.

Beginning August 15th we will use the configuration settings in the Google Play Store to limit continued access to Flash Player updates to only those devices that have Flash Player already installed. Devices that do not have Flash Player already installed are increasingly likely to be incompatible with Flash Player and will no longer be able to install it from the Google Play Store after August 15th.

The easiest way to ensure ongoing access to Flash Player on Android 4.0 or earlier devices is to use certified devices and ensure that the Flash Player is either pre-installed by the manufacturer or installed from Google Play Store before August 15th. If a device is upgraded from Android 4.0 to Android 4.1, the current version of Flash Player may exhibit unpredictable behavior, as it is not certified for use with Android 4.1. Future updates to Flash Player will not work. We recommend uninstalling Flash Player on devices which have been upgraded to Android 4.1.

I enjoy Chrome more than the stock browser. Since I run between 3-4 computers a day, I like having everything synced up and to be able to pull up web pages that are up on another computer or device to whatever computer I'm at. And its smooth :P

I don't NOT like the stock browser, just enjoy and get a lot better use out of Chrome.

About the only thing that kept me from using Chrome on Android was the fact that the stock browser had Flash integration... now that's that's gone there's really no reason to use it ...

I too like the ability to open tabs from other computers I'm logged on to right from my phone

That is correct. But if you had it installed earlier it would work. In fact after my upgrade to Jelly Bean the ICS browser was working with flash websites. Instead of upgrade, if you flashed over the whole build or did a data reset, I think the flash wouldn't work.
Anyway after I disabled and enabled it back, it no longer works.

I can't be the only one that prefers the stock browser over chrome right? Right?

I feel the same way. IMHO while Chrome's interface is much slicker than the stock browser and navigation (within the app) is more intuitive and more user friendly, on my phone it fails in two very big ways:

  • pages actually load slower in Chrome vs. Stock Browser.
  • Battery life while using Chrome is pretty bad

Yep, some make it sound like if you didn't know it was a big deal..lol I can see where the confusion would come in with the Nexus 7 and the Gnex having Chrome. BTW: Chrome will not support Flash in the browser. If you still have Flash installed you will still be able to use with the stock browser and some other third party ones such as Boat and Xscope. Boat is a great browser with lots of setting options. Xscope also has lots of options but I think Boat displays sites in a richer form. You can also set to "desktop" mode and will not have to change it as you do with the stock browser. The stock browser has desktop option however it doesn't keep the setting when you launch the browser again. Great phone, enjoy!
