Chrome push notifications don't work - never get request

Not sure where to post this to get help with this weird little problem... But recently I read about Facebook notifications being able to come through Chrome for Android, negating the need to have the app installed. However, when I visit the site in chrome I never get a pop up requesting permissions for notifications like some ppl are saying I should get. I go under site settings and Notifications are set to "Ask First" and toggling the switch just disables them completely. Even sites that I can go to on my PC and get a notifications request prompt will not give me a prompt when I visit them in chrome on my phone, so I don't think this is just a problem with FB.

I've tried clearing cache and data for Chrome, reinstalling it, using Chrome Beta instead and never get the notification access request or anything.

If someone has any ideas, I would love to be able to uninstall the Facebook apps and just getting notifications through Chrome. Thanks!

I should probably mention I am using a nexus 6 with Android M preview 3

Thanks for the reply.

Unfortunately, it seems this isn't just an issue with the dev previews. I'm still having this problem on the final M build after a clean installation. I have seen that guide on FB, but I never get the popup about the site wanting to display notifications. When I follow the steps:

Tap (menu button)
Scroll down and tap Account Settings
Tap Notifications and then Mobile
Under Mobile Notifications, select Turn On

I cannot follow these directions because when I go into Account Settings>Notifications while on m.facebook.com, there is no "Mobile". Under Notifications, it lists only:

On Facebook
Email
Text Message

and that is all, no "Mobile".

However, if I open the FB app (which I really want to get rid of) and go into the Menu>Account Settings>Notifications I do see a "Mobile" sub menu in there, however it does not have anywhere to click "Turn On", it says "Get Push Notifications About:" and then check boxes next to all the things you'll get notifications for.

I have the exact same problem, I also never get that popup asking me for permissions to show notifications, and like you I also have tried uninstalling, reinstalling, clearing chache and all that with no results, the only thing is I actually get other sites that have push notifications to show that popup, only facebook isn't showing the popup for me, every other site does.

I did some experimenting with this issue, I logged out of my Facebook account in Chrome, opened Facebook in Chrome again and logged in with a friend's account, and oh surprise, the popup appeared! So, I obviously allowed the notifications request, BUT, once I logged out of my friend's account and logged into mine again, push notifications are not being pushed by Chrome anymore, even though in Chrome settings, Facebook appears as an allowed site to show push notifications.

So obviously the problem is not Chrome at all, it's Facebook. There must be some setting or something in particular with my Facebook account that is keeping this push notifications disabled or something.

You have either to clear some settings on Chrome to get that again. Go to settings, site settings and then notifications. See if there is something for Facebook you can delete.

I did all that, I erased everything related with Facebook in Chrome but it still wouldn't work, as I said, the problem is not Chrome, is Facebook, or at least the problem is with MY Facebook account that it's not pushing notifications.

Might need to look further. I had to look around and find things to delete to get it to ask me.

Also go to your Facebook on mobile and the settings and notifications and see if there is anything there.

I did that too, I've reset everything there is to reset in Chrome, I've checked every setting in both Chrome and Facebook and nothing, that damn pupup is not poping up for ME.

Y'all might need to uninstall updates to chrome and update it again. It is working fine in this regard

Any idea if Twitter is supported? I get FB updates from Chrome, and would really like to ditch the twitter app.

Well I got mine working eventually. I created another FB account to test with, and logging in with it on my phone and/or PC gave my the notification prompt, which I allowed and notifications came through. Looking under the FB Notification settings, there was a Mobile submenu that was not present when logged in under my FB (for some reason I still dont understand). This confused me for a long time and my issue was still not resolved...

Until I opened FB in chrome on my phone and then hit the "request desktop site" option in the chrome menu. When it loaded up the desktop site, there was a request to allow notifications. After I hit allow on that, I started to receive FB notifications on my phone. Even tho I hit allow on the desktop site, the notifications still reference m.facebook.com and the site(s) not show up under Chrome's site settings and are listed as having notification access now.

Still not sure what the underlying issue was, or why this fixed it. But whatever, it's working and I'm finally rid of the horrible FB apps and still have all the functionality I need! Hopefully this helps someone else.
