I've just started using an android phone and want to use the chrome browser.

I noticed every time I start chrome it displays the last page i was at. I would like to it default to the google page when I start chrome. How do I do this? Settings does not have a startup page setting. Home page setting only seems to give you a home button. Not really what I want.

Chrome on most devices doesn't have a homepage or startup page setting. But certain devices seem to have a custom version of Chrome which may have this option. Which device do you have?

Also, if you close all of your Chrome tabs (such that you have a blank page with a plus sign in the upper left), then what happens when you open a new tab by tapping that plus sign? On my Nexus 6P, I get the main Google page.

I'm used to using Chrome on my windows pc. There you set a startup page which is were it takes you when you start the browser. I've got an S6 Active. Seems like a strange thing to remove, we've had startup pages since the very early versions of browsers. Why would I want to return to the last page I was viewing when I start the browser? I just want to start chrome on the google page every time I launch it.

Mobile Chrome doesn't have a number of features that desktop Chrome has. I think part of the rationale for not having a start page setting on mobile Chrome is that most users will be switching back and forth between apps, and therefore force closing Chrome each time you leave it (and then opening it back up to a start page) would not be ideal in most use cases.

thanks for the reply. I think I saw a post saying I could launch chrome with a url which would in a sense give me the same functionality of a start page. Any idea how to do that? I don't think the icons have properties like on a computer.

You can save a webpage bookmark as a homescreen shortcut. Go to the webpage on Chrome, then tap Menu>Add To Homescreen. Whenever you tap that shortcut, Chrome will open a new tab to that page.

I think that's what I read!!!

I'll do that and just stick a Chrome icon on it and it will basically do exactly what I want. Thanks!

Worked!!! Your the best. Thanks again.

For me its also a bit irritating solution but most phone browsers doing that. And I guess thats the reason. I can't see any point why I would like to open every time 4-5 tabs, which I visited last time. And closing all tabs option is kinda too much to do. Besides you can't really exit the app, that can be done also via several actions. A simple exit for every app would be nice :) but can't change the developement direction here.

The home page setting shown there is not universally available. When I had a rooted device and used a T-Mobile based Rom on my AT&T device, lo and behold, I had that option. Not so with the Touchwiz Galaxy S5 Rom that came with the Galaxy S5 or the one that's on my newer Moto G4 Plus. I just got an AT&T Trek 2D tablet (ZTE) and it has the feature. Why do some have it and some not? Irritating.
