Chromebook Discussion

You've probably already done this, but have you tried going to google.com/cloudprint, select Printers on the left column, Delete the printer in question, then add it back again?

I can't get it to add the printer at all. Every time I put in the printer email it says that it can't find it.

Cloud ready. I print from my iPad and smartphones all the time. Just can't with my Chromebook. I'm sure there is something that I'm doing wrong, I just don't know what.

What's the printer brand and model? I'm sure you already went through the whole support process, but I can see if I can unearth any other tricks.

It an HP photo smart. It's not in front of me right now so I don't have the model number.

So your HP printer is ePrint ready, correct? And you mentioned that you already registered the printer's ePrint email address with Cloud Print.

Have you tried Removing Web Services from the printer, and then reenabling it? See this support page, under "Remove ePrint and print apps settings/configuration information."

No I haven't registered it. That's the issue. It won't let me. I get the email from the printer and when I input it during the registration process it doesn't allow it.

What I meant was to remove the web services on the printer itself, then re-enable them. Maybe that will reset the email address such that it can be registered. From the HP support page:

"On most printers, you can use the Remove Web Services option to disable all Web Services. This will remove the printer from your ePrintCenter account, delete all print apps settings and configuration data, and also delete your printer's ePrint email address/account and configuration/setup data. For Photosmart printers, the Remove Web Services option is available either under the Setup>Wireless>Web Services menu option, or the Setup>Web option, or via the ePrint icon on the printer front panel.

If you later decide you want to re-enable Web Services to use print apps or ePrint on that printer, use the Enable Web Services option from those same menu locations."

Thanks. I will give it a try.

Tried the suggestion last night. I'm not getting anywhere with it.

Hard to say if its a problem with the printer's ePrint function, or with the Google Cloud Print feature. Any way for you to test it out on another cloud printer?

I don't have another cloud printer. I don't know, maybe I will have to try another one. This one doesn't seem to be working. However, because I have never tried to use Google's cloud print before, I'm not certain if it's cloud print or the printer that's giving me problems. I can't seem to register it at all. It is beyond frustrating. I can print from my phone wirelessly in 2 seconds but not from my Chromebook.

One thing you could try is to purchase a new HP printer with ePrint from some place with a good return policy (like Costco, if you're a member) and test it out. If it works, then you know there's a problem with your original printer. If it doesn't, then something is messed up with Cloud Print.

For what it's worth, the touch screen version of the Acer C720 is on sale for $249 today (Wednesday 4/9) at Best Buy, a $50 discount over the regular price.

Are you printing from your phone on your local WiFi network? Or are you printing from your phone via the mobile data network?

The fact that you can't register the printer in Google's cloud print service suggests your local router/firewall is blocking it.

Make sure your router is letting traffic from HP's ePrint service in/out of your network.

I was printing through wifi. You have to or else you wouldn't be able to find the printer because both the device (phone in this case) has to be on the same network to print. So nothing is being blocked I guess. I suspect that it is the printer. And if that's the case then that sucks for me. Because I got the printer free from work and it is a nice printer that worked well with my iPad and smartphone. But to print from my $200 Chromebook, I would have to buy a $100 printer.

Here's another thought--what if you connect your printer to your main desktop or laptop (assuming you have one) with a USB cable, then set the printer up as a conventional cloud printer (i.e., a "classic printer"), rather than using HP ePrint? The downside there would be the main computer would have to be on all the time in case you were out of the house and wanted to print something remotely.

I still cannot get MLB.TV video to play on my Chromebook. Anybody have any ideas or anything at all?
