Chromecast causing phone WiFi to drop

Hi, I see this is an older thread, and unfortunately no solution is given, but I thought I'd try anyway since I'm not finding a solution or even a decent description of the problem anywhere else. I hope someone does have a solution that's not been posted here (so, if that's you, please post...).

I'm having this same problem. I already had Chromecast setup and working fine. I'd recently changed my wireless network (ATT talked my wife into "upgrading" to Uverse) and have a different password. Chromecast needed the new password to connect to the new network I attempted to setup Chromecast using the app on my Android phone (Samsung Galaxy S3, SGH-I747, running Android 4.4.2). The app seemed to locate the Chromecast just fine, but when I clicked "Setup" the wireless connection on my phone dropped (i.e, turned off). When I shut down the app my wireless connection was reestablished. I tried this several times, resetting various bits of hardware along the way. I reinstalled the app. I tried resetting my wireless service to 802.11n, b, g, all to no avail. I finally borrowed my daughter's iPhone and ironically enough that worked (see threads in other forums about problems Apple devices have with my new router).

The router is an ATT Uverse Pace 5031NV.

If anyone knows what's going on, and even better, how to resolve this issue, please post.

Punting Uverse is not an option, no matter how appealing.

Thanks

I did see this mentioned in an earlier thread with no solution, so I'm bringing it up again. Got my Chromecast last night, easy set up, no worries. Played a couple of YouTube videos, then got a message that it couldn't connect....took a minute to realize, but the wifi on my phone (S4, not rooted) was actually turned off. Ok, turned it back, played another video...wifi turned off. Ok so I rebooted the phone, same thing keeps happening and I have no idea why. Is there an update that fixes this bug that i possibly haven't downloaded yet? Its so annoying it makes me want to stop using it until the bug is fixed.

thanks!

What I did to fix it was go to wifi settings on your phone and connect to the chromecast as the chromecast is connecting directly to your phone to get the password to your router. I think the issue is that the phone (samsung) has a test where if your not getting Internet that it has a warning saying that it's a low connection and may not have internet. Click connect anyway. Then go back to the chromecast app and continue setup then it will ask for your router info. Type it in and then you will be prompted from there if you have a update. Your chromecast app is having a issue connecting to your phone. Has nothing to do with the router I don't think.

I got similar issue, the chromecast causing wifi to drop. I'm mirroring Chrome through my MC book air. Videos on line can play fora while then suddenly stop.
verything lost connection the to the wifi router. The Chromecast lost wifi, Mc lost wifi, all other devices cennected to wifi lost connection. Then after a while all is reconnecting back. Is just like the router wifi stop for a moment.

This only happened when I mirrored Chrome, casting you tube is ok. anybody expperience this problem?

I purchased the original Chromecast the day it was released. No problems ever.

Upgraded to Chromecast 2015 and I can't set it up.
Here's my setup:
Samsung S3 4.4.2
Dlink AC3200 Ultra Wi-Fi Router DIR-890L/R - no firmware update available
Lemon Chromecast 2 or 2015 - whatever they are calling it.

My phone keeps switching to 4G whenever Chromecast 2015 tries to connect. And like others have noted, I'm seeing the Chromecast as "router" in my available connections list.

I'm stumped....

I had this problem until I turned off smart network switch on my phone. Galaxy S6
