Hi, I see this is an older thread, and unfortunately no solution is given, but I thought I'd try anyway since I'm not finding a solution or even a decent description of the problem anywhere else. I hope someone does have a solution that's not been posted here (so, if that's you, please post...).
I'm having this same problem. I already had Chromecast setup and working fine. I'd recently changed my wireless network (ATT talked my wife into "upgrading" to Uverse) and have a different password. Chromecast needed the new password to connect to the new network I attempted to setup Chromecast using the app on my Android phone (Samsung Galaxy S3, SGH-I747, running Android 4.4.2). The app seemed to locate the Chromecast just fine, but when I clicked "Setup" the wireless connection on my phone dropped (i.e, turned off). When I shut down the app my wireless connection was reestablished. I tried this several times, resetting various bits of hardware along the way. I reinstalled the app. I tried resetting my wireless service to 802.11n, b, g, all to no avail. I finally borrowed my daughter's iPhone and ironically enough that worked (see threads in other forums about problems Apple devices have with my new router).
The router is an ATT Uverse Pace 5031NV.
If anyone knows what's going on, and even better, how to resolve this issue, please post.
Punting Uverse is not an option, no matter how appealing.
Thanks
