Am I correct in believing that I can cast any video I have stored on my computer by right clicking on a video and using "open with..." and clicking Chrome...then clicking the cast button? Or does the video have to be uploaded to the internet somewhere?

As long as you have the correct codecs installed alongside chrome, it should work. I was able to play a local mkv file by just dragging and dropping file in active chromecast tab.

Yup. You can also just drag and drop a file into a Chrome tab too.

I haven't been able to get Amazon Prime videos to stream. When using Chrome browser on my W8 machine I'm able to get the tab to show up on my TV but the video itself doesn't show up and neither does the audio. I have had luck with hulu.com and other sites so I'm not sure what the problem is with Amazon. Maybe it's something to do with the video player they use on their site.

Amazon Prime videos works for me I have not had a problem with it. Was watching it Mad Men season 6 through my Amazon Prime Video with Chromecast on my 58" plasma yesterday.

I don't have the Google Chrome Windows 8 mode app going, I just have in Desktop mode not Windows 8 mode. You can change it buy going to the little three line's setting button in the right hand corner of the browser bar, and going down to where it says "Relaunch on Desktop mode"

I am not running Google Chrome from an app either, as far as I know. I run it from the desktop in Win8. I will double check this setting tonight at home though. I'm hoping it will just fix itself if nothing else as I have a free month of Prime right now and would like to take advantage of it on my TV.

The Chromecast? Yes, it works perfectly with my Nexus 4*, Nexus 7, and laptop.

* Besides the Netflix "sleep of death" issue...

Start a Chromecast via the Netflix app. Let phone go to sleep. Phone never wakes up. It requires a hard shut down and reboot to fix. Seems it's happening to a lot of other people too. I'm not sure if it's completely caused by Chromecast itself, but the Netflix (and YouTube, apparently) app is currently broken on the Nexus 4.

Interesting. I haven't experienced that on either my S3 or N7.

It seems that the only device affected is the Nexus 4.

My Nexus 4 (Android 4.2.2) works perfectly with my Chromecast.

Played around with it for the first time last night with my GNex and I had a little bug where the Netflix app would lose the connection to the chromecast (the chromecast would still be streaming the video) and clicking on the Netflix app in my recent apps tab would do nothing. The screen would blink but then I'd be back at the home screen. I'd have to go into the app drawer and start Netflix...almost like I was doing it for the first time.
