I just set up my Chromecast and mirroring a Chrome tab is extremely laggy. I tried to watch HBO GO this way and while it "works" it's not really watchable.

How is the wifi strength in this location?

I can't get audio working at all when I mirror from a Chrome tab off my desktop. The video plays fine but no sound. Tested it with Hulu, Youtube and ESPN. For Youtube, the sound is fine if I cast it via the little Chromecast icon on the bottom right hand corner of the Youtube video. But if I try to cast it via the Chrome extension, I don't hear anything. Same thing with the Spotify web app.

Maybe a dumb question, but does the sound work on the machine doing the casting? In other words, video shows on the TV, but audio is coming out of the computer? Or is the sound just gone?

you cannot cast from chrome browser on Android devices, its from PC.

That stinks! Guess I'll have to set up my tablet to remote desktop to the Pc in my home office so I can cast from the browser on it.

The Chromecast extension occasionally tells me it's low. But it shouldn't, because the Chromecast is three feet from my router and my laptop is in the same room and Windows shows full bars.

Yikes, hope wifi reception isn't an Achilles' Heel for this thing (like it is for my galaxy nexus). I'm wanting to put this in my bedroom, which is not that far away from my router, and my laptop has no problems, but both my GNex and Transformer Prime have occasional connection issues.

I don't think it gets poor WiFi reception in general. I've had no trouble with Youtube and Netflix stream with no problem. It's only the Chrome extension that gives me trouble.

You're probably right. I just read that the chrome extension works differently than the apps. With the apps, the device tells the chromecast what link to grab from the cloud, and then the chromecast takes off from there on its own. However, with the chrome extension, the device is constantly sending information up to the cloud and then back down to the chromecast, which causes the delay or lag. Or, at least that's what this one guy was saying.

I don't think it goes back out to the internet, but it's definitely the mirroring that's different. Instead of the Chromecast streaming from the provider directly, the data still goes to Chrome on the PC then has to stream over WiFi to Chromecast. And it displays on both at the same time.

Chromcast tab sharing doesn't send information to the cloud. its using a technology called WebRTC. you probably would have heard about it used in browser-browser video chatting.

whats going on is chromecast extension stream a video of your tab to the chromecast device. so the problem lies in either your PC or the network being slow.

like said before its still in beta so i hope it will improve.

Actually just thinking about it. Chrome on mobile does not support flash so you would still at least need a chromebook to stream HBO go

Works with Chrome on the desktop though.

Nope, the audio isn't coming out of my computer speakers either when I'm casting the tab. If I stop casting, the audio resumes on my computer.

Can you use a AV receiver HDMI instead of connecting straight to TV? I would like to be able to listen to music through my speakers.
