Chromecast is an annoying piece of crap.

All the more reason to get rid of then don't you think?

Funny who the entire Chromecast forum on Android central is just thread after thread of people with issues. It well and truly feels like a device in beta, and we're the subjects to bug test it.

It costs $30 dude.

I wouldn't go as far to say it was crap, but I do find it very strange that the only software that Chromecast doesn't work on, is Chrome browser.

I have a Samsung Note 10.1 2014 edition and Chromecast works very well with YouTube, FilmOn, etc.. but not it's own companies software. It does work on Chrome Browser on my Laptop.

When are they going to fix this very annoying problem??????????????

There are actually good reasons for this. The CC just plays a video stream you have to remember that. So the source device has to be able to create that video stream at a good enough quality to make it work. Chorme on the desktop even struggles on some hardware particularly lower end hardware. The CPU in most portable devices are not robust enough to create the stream needed for CC to look good, and the few that do will churn through your battery in no time.

They actually did release a update to the Chromcast app that adds streaming the devices display to the CC. I it works ok on my note 3, but I still don't think it is ready for prime-time.

Only problem I've ever had was the occasional stutter during movie scenes that were graphically intensive while playing at 1080p. Only on occasion though.

But even to this day, a wired connection will always be superior in speed to a wireless one. Next house I build will have Ethernet cable ports placed strategically in every room of the house. I was using my PlayStation USB port for watching movies until a couple of years ago when Sony partnered with Cinavia and put my torrent naughtiness to an end lol. After that I was using unreliable MTP and Slimport adapters. Once CC started allowing cast screen so I could watch movies on my device directly I bought one.

Since my router is upstairs and the Chromecast downstairs, I got myself a d-link powerline adapter. Plugs right into the wall outlet behind my TV so I get way better connection since the Chromecast is directly in front of the thing.

^^

Power-line adapters don't work with AFCI circuits, which are on many newer construction homes.

I havn't had many probems with chromecast, sometimes it freezes though. But I'm slightly annoyed of the initial lag of the "trade-off" of when I press play on Netflix, google etc. and the actual streaming thereof. Best $30 I spent so far though. Only wish Google would just let you upload movies to Google movies like they do with Google music. God that'd make things convenient.

but-but-but, it works great on my LG42LK450. Took a bit of persuasion for my cheap $20 dlink router to accept it, but it now runs flawlessly. I even have it casting from my ubuntu 14.04 laptop as well as several computers running different flavours of windows, along with tablets, phones etc.. Best 39 bucks I've spent in a long time, changed my not-so smart TV into a semi-smart TV.

I would suggest MOCA bridge adapters. A few years back that was the best option second only to Ethernet. And now pretty much everyone has coax throughout their house.

I would add though that my CC runs fine great over wifi.

I'm just reading through all these threads as I have one on order. I don't have a flashy tv ( the missus might let me get I one if I can show her the advantages of this device though ). I'm still wondering though, if I use my mobile can I use my tariff or do I have to connect to my home network? I live on a boat and am always trying to find ways to keep power consumption down so this device looks great to me. Also I use a MiFi dongle which has limited data allowance but my mobile hasn't, as 4G gets better then streaming via mobile seems a better option in my case and having unlimited data ideal for streaming. Plus this thread is mainly to do with hardware connection issues so I will either edit or post my experiences when it gets delivered.

Ok, so got my device and easily set it up within five minutes. Answers to my question is you have to do it through Wi-Fi. You can't use your unlimited network data allowance 😠. This is a real shame as for the few of us who don't have fibre optic broadband it makes it quite limiting. The ChromeCast however works, so far, perfectly with no issues.

If you have 2 phones you can use one as a Hotspot and the other in wireless to rub the Chromecast.

Can you provide more info on this please. Only issue is that it would be classed as tethering so still wouldn't be able to utilise my unlimited data allowance. I just don't understand why you can't just cut out the middleman, router etc. .

Yes it is tethering, one phone & the Chromecast use the other phone as a Hotspot. As for why you can't do it with one phone, you'll have to ask someone with a clue about how it works. But even if you could use just one phone, you would still be tethering the Chromecast to that phone.

"Cut out the middle man" ----- What do you mean? How else would it have internet access?

I agree that it is a piece of crap. By the way it is nice to know that it has worked well on this forum for a number of people but how would people feel about buying a new car that only worked for 70% of the people that bought it. This product is a serious failure.

Google has sold MILLIONS of chromecasts, is the cheapest out there compared to their competitors, and is seriously idiotproof....

Yeah. It isn't 70%, it's more like 99.99% have had no problems. It sucks when you are one of the people that has problems, but it doesn't mean the product is a failure.

I thought mine was a piece of crap at first but it seems like once it got connected and up and running for awhile all the problems went away. Works great!
