Chromecast Update ?

Does the Chromecast update on it's own? Or do I need to do something to update it? We bought one for our daughter and I wasn't sure.

Yes, it handles it on its own. No need to do anything and no way to stop it as far as I know. So let's hope that all the updates work well and don't brick it.
 
Today, my CC is no longer connected to my Chromebook and my Chromebook can't find my CC during the search. Might this update have anything to do with that or has the update not even rolled out yet?
 
Truthfully, I have no idea, but twice I have had issues with none of my devices (Nexus 4/7 Win7CPU) seeing nor connecting to my Chromecast.

Both times, I rebooted my Chromecast, Router and Devices.

I wish Google was a little more diligent with changelogs, as images looks much better, but I am almost sure it is a placebo effect from knowing that my Chromecast received an update.

As well, I am almost positive that Netflix starts "casting" faster than it did under the previous software.

My chromecast disconnects while casting from chrome browser, and can't be found until I power cycle the chromecast. This does not happen while casting from my tablet or phone, only chrome browser. Any suggestions? I am on the latest version on the chromecast and this never happened before the update. Tia

So much for the "silent update". Not sure if it was just a fluke but I saw the update being applied as soon as I switched to my Chromecast this morning.

My chrome cast is running v12072. How do I force the Update. I've tried suggestions on the cc forum re unplugging for 15 seconds but this hasn't worked. Is the update being filtered outside of the US - I'm in the UK

I'm in Canada so it's definitely not just limited to the U.S.
 
After the update I can't connect from my laptops.. I can't see the chromecast from windows7 and chrome (No Cast devices found...), but I can connect with iPhone, Android and iPad...
 
No one said chromecast has silent update. it auto updates.

you are confusing silent update with auto update

Actually Android Central said it had "silent updates".. Right in their article.

And I quote:
Google is pushing out another silent OTA for the Chromecast, bringing the streamer-on-a-stick to version 12940. You wont have to do anything to get it, and probably would never know it came.

That's an old announcement.
The current version is 13300.

But if you happen to be watch your screen when the update comes through you will definitely see it.
