cleaning the screen

I know the standard recommendation is just to use plain water, but has any one come across better cleaners?

I use water with a microfiber cloth, but I find that a lot of oily residue remains, and the screen easily picks up new smudges.

Just use a lens cleaning cloth with no liquid (a lens cleaning cloth is different than a microfiber cloth, at least as I define them). It's the same way I clean my eyeglasses. The cloth is intended to absorb the oils without liquid. If there seems to be something more stubborn on the screen, then dampen it slightly with water. Hand wash the lens cloth once in a while in cool water using a mild detergent like Woolite. This will get rid of the accumulated oils.

Thanks for the answers. I guess my concern is that cleaners may degrade the oleophobic properties of the screen, though any such properties are probably gone in a few months anyways.

I use a microfiber cloth, spray the cloth with a tv/monitor screen cleaner and wipe the screen.

Again... No chemicals needed. Just use a lens cleaning cloth. That's what I do and it works perfectly, and it's "green", in case that's important to you.

Wait... Okay, just cleaned it again. Wow, no prints, no smudges, no chemicals, no scratches, and it looks wonderful! Really, it does. Try it!!

The nexus 7 screen is very prone to finger prints do I highly doubt is has an oleophobic coating.

I use a microfiber cloth and damp it with purified water from my water cooler to clean all my electronics with screens. Works great and leaves no streaks.
