I got my Fascinate Friday for free at Best Buy. I had been using a Blackberry Storm since the end of 2008. Something the Fascinate is missing that the storm did is when I have a phone number on the description of an appointment on my calendar, I could tap the phone number and the phone would place the call. The Fascinate isn't doing that and I can't copy from there either. Is this something that the Fascinate just doesn't do that I can just hope is included in a future upgrade?

yeah, I was a storm 1 full term user as well. there are a lot of productivity shortcomings on android, that sadly we can say the storm 1 did perfectly.

we lack a native pop/imap client on this phone, central calendaring functionality, and many other business-centric things.

we are completely dependent on the 2.2 upgrade and then the dev community/android market to put in apps for what the storm 1 could do natively.

Dial direct from appointment?

I'm a newbie on Android coming from years of BB. One thing is driving me crazy. I have dozens of con calls a week and on the BB, I would just open the appointment, find the call number and dial right from the appointment. It would even enter the meeting code if the number was constructed properly (123-456-7890 x555555).

I cannot even highlight a number inside an appointment on my new Fascinate. Any work arounds?

You guys are correct that the stock calendar app doesn't allow you to do that. I sync with Exchange and use Touchdown, which has it's own calendar app that provides that functionality. There might be other calendar replacement apps that do the same for other types of calendar accounts.

Thanks Cory. Just syncing up but I can already tell that Touchdown is a terrific product. Little pricey for an android app but I have a feeling it will be well worth it. 30 day trial!

One quick one, Do I need to go back and clean up my android exchange sync now that I have TD? Don't want both of them fighting for syncs, etc.

DejaOffice is another app with that functionality. I've been using it to sync with outlook and I get my full contacts list, calendar, tasks, notes, categories, etc. was $40 for the sync program for windows but worth it imo.

It won't hurt to have both, but you don't need to have both, so I'd go in and delete the first one. Trust me, you will end up buying Touchdown if you sync with Exchange. I love, love, love Touchdown.

I just found an app called Jorte. Its a calendar app that's kind of simple but it syncs with my Google Calendar and I can tap on the phone numbers on an appointment and they come up in my phone dialer. I'm not planning to replace the default fascinate calendar with this one since its not as nice as that calendar. But it does give me the opportunity to dial from the calendar and I'll use it with I need to do that. The way I have my calendar set up is that I have Google sync for outlook on my pc. Then I use my fascinate any my ipad synced to Google. So Google calendar (and contacts) is a hub for my information and I have my devices synced to it.
