Ok.... This is a simple process but I would say as a Newbie myself, that all the details are NOT explicitly explained.

Prelims:
A. Make sure you have the latest drivers installed.
B. Make sure you have downloaded Odin and Clockwork.

1. Shutdown phone
2. take out battery
3. hold down volume down key and plug in usb cable.
4. Phone should go into download mode and yellow text should be on screen.
5. Run Odin and you should see a single yellow box indicating that Odin has recognized your phone.
6. Click the PDA button and select the Clockwork.tar file you downloaded.
7. Click start. Odin will do its thing and shutdown your phone.
8. Unplug phone and put back in battery.
9. Download Rom Manager from Market
10. Run "Flash Clockwork Mod option" within Rom Manager
11. Click the "Reboot into Recovery Mode" within Rom Manager.
12. Phone will reboot with some text on the screen.
13. Use volume up and down keys to change options, Use power button to "select" that option.

Simple enough???

^^ Thanks so much, I've been looking for this for an hour. Every other link has been a 404 error. I'm trying to make a backup of my stock rom but apparently you have to push cwm to the phone via odin and then flash through the app to make cw recovery mode work. wtf why is the fascinate such a pain? the droid 1 was so easy

Got it to work! Really wasn't that hard.

OK so I'm still rooted stock and am wondering does clockworkmod recovery backup the radio and kernel in addition to the rom? So if i were to flash a custom kernel but then later restore would I lose that custom kernel? Thanks a lot for this guide, any other help would be much appreciated!

Anyone else run into this problem, every time i go into Rom manager and click download ROM, the first time i always get " Error occurred while processing the ROM list!" then i back out and go in it again and it works fine, and yes i would also like to know if it backs up the kernel and radio as well?

Try downloading titanium back up , then when you open it go to the bottom, it says Problems?,,, hit that and agree to update busybox.
Not sure but purchasing it may fix that, but im not sure

No a backup from rom manager only backs up the rom,, kernel and radio remain the same

OK good to know. I have purchased ROM manager, but i know if im flashing another ROM im purchasing full version of Titanium so i dont have to sit there and click yes to install every app. That took longer than anything else i did

Clockwork Mod

So last night I rooted my fascinate and flashed it using odin. Everything worked great until I installed ROM manager for free. Once I flashed with ROM manager I pressed reboot into recovery mode and nothing happened? I tried doing a cold reboot and the I get an error message when updating the .SD card. Any help would be great! Thanks

So I'm trying to install the latest Blackhole DL09 rom and CWM seems to be stuck at "finding update package". Never had CWM get stuck like this.

let me know how that ROM is i want to try it but wanted to see what others thought. And it did that to me the other day i had to cancell

I eventually got it to install, but something must have still went wrong because I had things happening like my phone freezing whenever I tried to sync my contacts. Never had this much trouble with the older DI01 version.

I see added drivers. I'll try them.

I needed updated drivers. The one I used to root didn't work. When I went in to download mode I got a device not recognized error. New drivers, started Odin, I'm in.
Where did you find the drivers? I'm having the same problems as you. I would like to make sure I'm using the right stuff.

thanks!

I read earlier in this thread that it was not good to have the lagfix and clockwork on your phone. Can someone please explain to me why this is so? It might be me, but my phone seems to run better with the lagfix. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Is this the same type of Recovery that the HTC phones enjoy? I guess I don't understand because I recently put a custom ROM on my buddies Droid Eris and it seemed a lot easier than doing this? Is there another way to get into recovery such as holding the power button and another button?

if you are using DL09 on your fascinate follow these directions. its actually pretty easy.....

and yes you can get into recovery from an off position holding VOL up+down while continue to hold them hold power , when you see SAMSUNG flash twice let go....but unless you flashed CWM via odin thats as far as you go you need to flash CWM then when in the regular recovery screen you hit apply sdcard update....then that will lead you into CWM

a few things i am having problems with:

1. i followed all instructions on page 1...loaded odin, it recognizes my phone, i apply the .tar file in the PDA box, i click start and it does its thing...however the phone will not reboot?! i have tried this a number of times as previously stated in this thread, but it will still not reboot for me?!

2. when i click on ROM manager after reinstalling the battery the first time it will not load and i get a FC, i close it and it opens right up the 2nd time?!

3. i flashed clockworkmod recovery (2.5.1.0) when i reboot into recovery, my phone reboots fine, i have the blue text up top with the options, the yellow text looks fine, then at the bottom in red i am getting:
E: failed to verify whole-file signature
E: signature verification failed
installation aborted

also i can use the volume rocker to select an option in the blue text but i am not able to select anything?

i have read this entire thread, a few pages more than once and for some reason (probably the fact i am totally new to this stuff) i am just not getting something:'(

if you could, pretend like you are trying to explain this to a monkey if you are responding to this post:p

Are you using this thread or the one I posted in the last comment
