last stupid question of the night before i go to sleep...

i dl'ed the zip files to my computer, how do i apply them to the root of my sd card?

Connect your phone to the computer.then drop down the notification bar down select the USB notification. Choose to mount...then from the task bar on the computer hit start button. Then select computer...then open the new drive which should be the sd card...then drag the files in

wow you were generous on that one!

Personally I feel if you don't know how to get things on some type of drive from your computer you probably shouldn't be doing advanced things like this to your phone.

i think he is confused about what "root" is, not that he doesnt know how to put something on his sd card, it sounds like he thought the "root" was a different part of his card.

if you are using DL09 on your fascinate follow these directions. its actually pretty easy.....

and yes you can get into recovery from an off position holding VOL up+down while continue to hold them hold power , when you see SAMSUNG flash twice let go....but unless you flashed CWM via odin thats as far as you go you need to flash CWM then when in the regular recovery screen you hit apply sdcard update....then that will lead you into CWM

As I am having occasional issues getting to cwm recovery, let me ask this question. VOL up+down plus power gets me to blue recovery. Vol up+down plus power, hold for Samsung to flash 2x gets me to cwm recovery (green), correct?

I went into ROM mgr, did a backup and clear cache, had it load from sd card the new kernel (1/21). It went through the process, but never went back to cwm. It sent me back to a different wallpaper, all of my apps were not present.

I had to dl ROM mgr again, get into cwm that way, load my backup and all my apps, plus the new kernel, were there. I know I must be missing a step somewhere. The only time i was in cwm was through ROM mgr. Running the update.zip did not take me into it.

UPDATE: looked at the sdcard and could see no update.zip, which may be the reason I have to go into ROM mgr. Ran the flash cwm recovery again and it is there. Does it get erased on a kernel upgrade? I know I had it there before when I flashed the 12/30 kernel.

it had been a long day and that is exactly what it was lol...i had put them on my sd card from my computer like was stated by DroidXcon, i was confused by the "root" in his post :-[

hopefully my idiotic posts can atleast help someone else who may be afraid to ask the dumb questions :)

both of those methods get you to blue recovery, then you select apply sdcard:update and this leads you into green clockwork

if you followed my directions in the post, i provided you with the update.zip file and a kernel to use which both go on your sdcard

after you flash CWM with odin , you are not suppose to turn on your phone, you need to boot straight into blue recovery , then use apply sdcard:update , which leads you into green clockwork, then you flash the kernel i provided in that link, then .....after this you will always be able to boot into blue rcovery and apply update to lead you into green recovery.

IF YOU DONT FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS and you boot up your phone after flashing with odin it will replace the CWM kernel and will not let you use clockwork recovery

remember there is no such thing as a stupid question, just stupid people. :D

jk. if you dont know you wont until you ask. its all good

root is a linux term given to the master admin account or "super user". this account has premission to make changes to what ever he wants. its not a place so much as its a set of permissions.

ok have dl'ed all files onto my sd card, flashed odin, got to green clockwork but i am not seeing DJ05_DL09_kernel.zip anywhere...this is driving me crazy lol :p

so you go into clockwork>install zip from sdcard>choose zip from sdcard and you go to the bottom

do you see either
1212_test_novoodoo_fascinate.zip
or
adryn_sv_0116_fascinate_novoodoo.zip?

did you find it before you rebooted, if not you have to start over, what was the problem?

the problem was me misunderstanding a line in your instructions...

From here using the vol keys scroll to install zip from SD card , use the power or back button to select

i took this as you explaining how to scroll or select, then i saw the option for "install zip from sd card" and found it lol...

thanks for all your patience and help...your instructions took a total n00b who knew nothing about any of this a week ago, to kinda knowing what i am doing and somewhat confident in being able to flash other roms and kernels
