Clone Droid 2 info to Droid?

Hi all, I just 'upgraded' from a Droid to Droid 2 Global because I plan to be out of the country a lot this summer and the Droid 2 Global talks CDMA here as well as GSM with Verizon's global roaming. Not particular happy with the battery life of my new compared to the Droid even after all the normal tweaks to try and combat that.

So anyway, I've never experimented with custom rom's, rooting, etc. but figured now that I have this original Droid sitting here doing nothing, it would be good to practice on without risking my new phone. I was wondering if there's a way to clone the info that allows the new Droid 2 to connect to Verizon to the old phone so I can turn the new one off, turn old one on and test apps, etc. on the old one that require the cell network? I did a little digging around and found references to that possibly being illegal; I'm not sure if that's just cloning in general is illegal or if it's your phone it's ok, etc. If that is the case, and I don't have a family plan, it sounds like my idea won't work...

so you want to have 2 phones active on the same plan with the same number? Sounds like a family plan without having to pay for the extra line.
I would say you have 2 legal options, pay the 9.99 for the extra line, seeing as you own the phone you can cancel at anytime with no ETF, or log on to vzw and activate the phone you want to test on then switch back after (not sure if there is a cap on how many times you can do that or if it will effect your plan)

*228 brings you to the verizon menus where you can activate the phone, update cell towers, and I'm sure more stuff that I haven't ever used.

It takes a couple minutes to activate a phone. The activation is completely automated so you don't have to talk to someone 15 times a day if you're switching back and forth. I did that when I got a refurbed Droid and wanted to make sure I had all the right settings on my new one.

Yeah, it's really simple you just dial *228 then 1 to activate and your number and it will activate it for you. I've done it a million times.
