Re: Your HTC ONE Opinion.

I'm little scared that next month if you google, you will find my answer "I have told you it".

I think the reason why only I reported it is that not many people had seen used HTC One. I have read about plastic issue just only in Czech language from people who saw same devices. And I have seen just one single review of the phone in Polish where they mention plastic on sides.

Use translate on HTC One - test, opinie, cena. Ogl and search for plastic.

Re: Your HTC ONE Opinion.

I believe it does have plastic on the sides, Highrisedrifter. If you look at the image you posted there is a difference in colour between the sides front and back. I still think though that if any cracking did occur it wasn't on final units.

I see what you are saying re: colour differences. However, if it does have plastic on the sides then it cannot be a unibody design, surely? Or am I widely off the mark here? I'm new to this so I could be wrong.

Re: Your HTC ONE Opinion.

I'm pretty sure the plastic is still sitting over top of the aluminum on the sides, the same way it is on the back.

Re: Your HTC ONE Opinion.

You may see two different colors on the picture (silver and white). Zero-gap unibody doesnt mean that it's made of single material. White is plastic and silver is aluminium.

Fair enough, I stand corrected. Cheers

Re: Your HTC ONE Opinion.

I felt like I'm alone against a milion people last week. I think many people will be surprised when they find out that there is plastic which HTC is not talking about. And if the cracking issue is not solved, that will be huge...

Re: Your HTC ONE Opinion.

It's weird though because i've looked at lots of reviews since you posted this. i've watched the production videos where they use a CNC machine to create the back and i've looked at lots of pictures of the inside and outside of the phone and whilst I can definitely see a colour difference, nowhere, anywhere, does it mention plastic at all. Everyone just mentions aluminium.

Re: Your HTC ONE Opinion.

I hope my posts will be read by someone who knows good people to ask and I (we) get answer soon.
I think the issue with plastic can be solved easily by modifying it (adding more elasticity).

Re: Your HTC ONE Opinion.

I think I read somewhere that if the body was all aluminum it would hinder connectivity. Also I think I read that there was a small strip of either plastic or ceramic in which the antennas were embedded. If it was used so hard that the logo was worn off, I see that as a testament to its longevity. Geez, do any of you ever wear the logos from your phones? A few cracks in that very narrow plastic or ceramic strip will not deter me from this phone. If in fact this was a problem, it is probably already fixed.

Edit: Here is a quote from anandtech--" There?s a thin strip of plastic which runs around the edge of the device, and it?s here that the microSIM tray, ejection port, primary microphone, microUSB port, power/lock button (which doubles as IR transmit and receive), earphone jack, and volume rocker sit." There is more on that site that speaks of ceramic and plastic.

Re: Your HTC ONE Opinion.

It wasn't just few cracks. Cracks were all around the phone and there was no single place on the plastic without it. It was very visible.
I don't see problem if the cracks were issue just on presale pieces but I have seen only broken devices from HTC so maybe they could answer my question and say that it's solved on retail pieces.
HTC also doesn't speak about plastic on phone and they always speak just about aluminimum unibody.

PS: Don't take me wrong that I hate HTC. I want to buy this phone and only seek for answers.

After doing some digging, it does appear that there is plastic around the edges. Thanks for confirming too, mistyisland.

I'm still on the fence on this phone over the S4 and I don't reckon this plastic cracking is a wider issue personally. It wouldn't deter me from getting the phone if I had my heart set on it.

Re: Your HTC ONE Opinion.

Ive not played with the HTC but I like the look of it. A bit more prestige like an iphone type build quality. Let down because you can't change the battery for me though

Re: Your HTC ONE Opinion.

Dan, did the phones still work and were the screens cracked? Were there any areas where small plastic pieces had fallen out or were missing?

Highrise, one of the earlier pics of the s4 had a cracked case. I think these pre production units take some hard knocks.

Re: Your HTC ONE Opinion.

mistyisland: Both phones worked and I didn't find any other problem than cracks in plastic. It was little weird that HTC tried to convince people to buy it by showing broken pieces.
On the forum where I discovered the problem with plastic someone thinks that one of the phones had some marks of failing on ground in past.

Re: Your HTC ONE Opinion.

Battery life statistics and a graph were posted on Android Authority and they wrote:

"A lot of HTC smartphone users have had complaints about the poor battery life of their devices, a concern compounded with the fact the recent HTC devices feature uni-body designs, making the batteries non-removable. If you were considering picking up a HTC One, but were worried about the battery performance, fear no more!

According to battery endurance tests done by Expert Reviews, the 2,300 mAh battery of the HTC One managed close to 17 hours of 3G talk-time, and more notably, lasted an amazing 8 hours and 32 minutes in video playback!

With numbers like these, getting a full day of usage with one charge, which has become increasingly difficult, should not be a problem anymore. The review does state that the review unit did not feature the final software version, but assuming that the final release will only make things more efficient, the battery test results are great.

To put these numbers in perspective, a recent battery test of the Sony Xperia Z, which features a slightly larger battery at 2,330 mAh, showed that while the Xperia Z lasted for 16 hours of 3G talk-time, the video playback test gave a result of just 5 hours and 39 minutes. Granted, the Xperia Z does feature a larger display, but that shouldn?t result in a difference of more than 3 hours.

We?ll be looking at a lot of other battery tests once the HTC One is officially released later this month, but for now, the initial results are certainly impressive. Battery life could well become one of the many reasons to buy the HTC One."
