well, i jumped from froyo to gingerbread yesterday. i went to mirages build and all i can say...is wow :) i made sme app tweaks to satisfy myself (adw ex launcher, set cpu etc) and i love it. with harmonia 1.7 i could only get a 726 mhz until things got weird...but with mirages build, im running 825 mhz and no problems...NONE. im running the smartassv2 scaling using some profiles that i created, and im getting ridiculous speeds with great battery life. just thought i'd pass that out there

Could you share the profile's? I'd like to have that too! ;)

sure thing :)

main: 825 max, 245 min, scaling smartazzv2
screen off: 245 max, 245 min, scaling smartassv2, priority 100
charging: 600 max, 245 min, scaling smartassv2, priority 90

One more thing. CM7 roms have a built in set cpu type of app. Go look in cyangenmod settings.

245-480 use the same amount of juice regardless. So you might as well bump it up to 480.

Are you sure about this?

Yes, it's the same voltage for anything <=480, and yes, voltage has the most substantial effect on draw. But clock speed still increases draw.

If you lock your speed at 480 and 245 and run it for a while, you will still see a temp difference - because draw is higher.

I am sure. There was a nice battery test thread around here by mmarz.

Sure, I remember that one back in the spring/summer (good work, as always by mmarz). Indeed, for a CPU limited task, the task gets completed faster, hence a higher clock speed might be more "battery efficient". That was the essence of mmarz study. And yes, for some users a Min of 480 makes sense.

But it is simply not true that the CPU draws the same at 245 and at 480 Mhz. If you were to run your phone for one hour constantly at 245 Mhz and one hour at 480 (say playing music or some other task that doesn't demand 480Mhz) you would spent more juice at 480Mhz.

Still, Min of 480 MHz can make sense for some users.

Also take into the fact, cpu cycles, polling of the cpu etc.. When it is at 480, less of that occurs, and actually saves some battery on our phones. Mmarz went into heavy detail on this. Overclocking can even save you battery if you actually use your phone as a "smartphone". Here is the thread, if anyone is interested. (form your own opinion)

Oh, I read the thread back then, and I understand why you say what you do. Indeed, there are cases where a min of 480 makes sense (as I explained).

But draw is higher at 480 Mhz, which was what I meant to point out.

We can leave it at that ;)

Update: I forgot: linking the thread was a good idea. It was was great work on mmarz'part. Recommended reading.

i saw that, but the cm7 version doesnt allow for profiles :/

today, after a 10 hour work day...my battery was at 50% with some web surfing, facebooking, texting and gps on the way home. I dont know if thats good or bad, just what it is :)

Indeed, I too find that this build works exceptionally well.

Kudos to mrg666.
