Hi All,
I am a new nook color owner, bought two for my girls. I am not new to the art of making devices do things their not supposed to do (as I've jailbroken iphones, hacked palm apps back in the day, etc.) but am totally new to android and the nook. I understand the directions for the SD CM7 installation but am a little unclear on what the means to the stock nook color. I would like the ability to use the nook color as is AND use it as a CM7 device, switching back and forth at will. I saw on another post to hold the "N" key and it will allow you to choose. Is that correct? If I do that and leave the SD card in, am I able to use the SD card as extra storage for both OS's? I hope I was clear, please let me know if I am not and I'll try to clarify. Basically I want to use the card for storage for both and to boot CM7 whenever I want to.
One other question is about OC'ing this thing. I have read that jacking it up to 1200 is OK and stable, but I wanted some more geek feedback on if that is reasonable to do.
Thanks for any feedback.
Pat

I do not run from an SD card so I can only be of so much help but I can confirm two things.

Yes if you hold N at boot you will get a boot screen to select if you want to boot into stock or your SD install,

You are also correct about 1200 overclock. It is very safe and stable because the Nook is underclocked to 800 from 1000 by BN for whatever reason.

Thanks much! I'd probably just root the thing but for y daughters I thought I'd leave the stock option intact. I'm going to check theirs out and if I like it, order another for myself.

Patnshan I have been trying to do an sd boot for about a month and always run into some kind of issue..either apps won't run or I lose the option on the bar to see all of the apps.

The guys that make these tutorials are awesome.

I'll give it a go and post back if I come across any newbie tricks.
I bought transcend class 4 cards which I've had good luck with in the past. Hopefully they work as well as sandisk. Not sure why it would be different??

Sadly, i have to tell you that it won't. The thing that is different are the random read/write speeds. They are MUCH higher on a Sandisk and other card brands are almost certain not to work even as close to as well.

OK, fair enough. I'll try it and see, then format them to be used as storage for the stock OS if it doesn't work. The tutorials usually say any class 2 or 4 but get your point. I saw the sandisk stuff after I ordered these. Oh well.

I'm not sure if this is the same thing as the OP's issue, so please let me know...

I have CM7 installed on the SD card (16GB) and I boot into it when needed. When I first installed CM7 I used EASEUS to extend the last partition to use up the entire card for CM7. Now I want to reduce that last partition back so that I have 10GB free. I then want the NC OS to recognize that 10GB free so that I can listen to music that I will sideload.

I reduced the partition so that there are 10GB unallocated. I can't get the NC (or Win 7) to recognize that 10GB. I tried finding it with Disk Manager so I can format it but I can't a format option to appear. I'm stuck.

Anyone have any ideas? Thanks!

The 4th partition should take up all the extra space. Then plug your nook into your computer via USB and select the mount as USB drive option on your status bar. Then you can drag and drop all of your music over.
