Hi,

I previously had an Iphone 4S and jailbroke it. But as my contract was soon to end I decided to change to android and I now have the Galaxy S4 and while I still like Iphone to some extent it comes no where close to my Galaxy. Although I'm having a hard time customizing it like I could do on the jailbroken Iphone. For example if I wanted to change the lock screen from slide to unlock to say a page turn effect type lock (drag from a corner or edge of screen and it will peel back like a sticky note type thing), i could get that unlock and still have my default as i know it lock screen. On android however I have to completely change my lock screen to like GO locker for example and while the themes available are great I'm left with an unfamiliar lock screen that I'm not used to.

On Iphone the notification were just there on the lock screen which I believe is now in android by default i'm not sure but either way I just use Nils lock screen widget to get it to work how I want. But with Android and GO locker I can't easily use Nils lock screen widgets so while I gain lock screen customization I also loose out on lock screen notification. Also another tweak I had was barrel which allowed me to change how home pages transitioned. Again I could do this while keeping the default familiar home screen but on android to do the same I have to get a new launcher like GO launcher which is good but I have to learn a completely new settings and menus etc. I still love android and prefer it to iphone as at least I can do all this without having to jailbreak well root it rather but coming from a jailbroken iphone I just want to know if i've over looked anything as I'm newish to android and not 100% of all the customization options available.

You'll probably find the lockscreen isn't as easy to customize as you'd like. A big part of this is for security reasons, but compared to the home screens and app drawer, there's a lot less you can do with it cosmetically.

If you haven't already, check out Nova or Apex launcher. No offense to Go Launcher, I just like those 2 better on Android 4.0+ devices (I currently use Nova).

I think you should be able to pull down the notification shade while in the lock screen. Granted it's not really a widget, but at least for dealing with notifications, this is a realtivly simple way to do it.
I agree with pete, that GO is nice, but I think they need to do a revamp of the launcher. I too use Nova.

So is there no way to change things like page transitions without changing the default launcher? Although I would prefer none rooted solutions, I have rooted my phone however I can't seem to flash my ROM easily so I've given up with ROM flashing and just use Xposed framework which is doing what I want so far. Is there any modules for xposed framework that let me do things like change page transitions? And Golfdriver97 thankyou for your welcome.

Correct, changing layouts and transition is done with a different launcher. But once you get used to it, it isn't so much a big deal, especially if you don't change things often.

Xposed, is kind of a different story...that makes changes to the ROM itself, but can't really change the launcher.

You have to understand the concepts:

Apple:
This is how we make our apps. You will draw that line 3.4 microns from the end of the last line, 36.3975 degrees clockwise. The color will be #245209. The Name will be in 9.6 point Boudoni type. Your app will take 3,7 seconds, +/- 30ms, to load. Etc. (There used to be a set of programming guides for Apple computers that took up about 5 feet of desk space. About the only thing it didn't specify was which finger to scratch your chin with.)

Look at the original Apple Paint program. Look at the original Apple Write program. Look closely, because they look almost exactly the same. They're the "generic Apple program", with small modifications to allow you to do different things.

iPhones are designed with the same idea in mind. Apple is for the rest of us - the herd.

Android:
No illegal apps. No fraudulent apps. No advertising an app that doesn't do anything like what you claim it does.

Looks? Functions? Colors? Hey, YOU'RE the programmer. YOU decide those things.

Apple is for those who have ham on rye with yellow mustard for lunch. Every day. Monday to Friday. For 35 years running.

Android is for the guy or gal who goes out to lunch, gets to the street and hasn't yet decided whether to go to a restaurant, a hot dog stand or skip it all and go to the gym for half an hour. Android lets you do it your way. Or as close as some app developer has gotten to your way. Look at 10 Android apps that do exactly the same thing in exactly the same way. They all look different.

Sticking with this analogy, what you also have to understand is that despite the inherent freedom, the "average" person probably doesn't have the time or know-how to build their own restaurant to serve exactly what they want, so they'll still have to choose from those options made available to them...but at least the options are plentiful.
