Coming over from a Pre and Precentral

Hey guys, also coming from precentral. Have yet to get my hero though. I'm curious to what you guys think. If I get a second line, order a hero, then cancel my line with the pre... and sell the pre... would that work?

Any help appreciated.

You don't need a screen protector!

Just picked up an HTC Hero at a local Sprint store on Sat 10/10. Loving it so far.

I'm on the hunt for a good screen protector in a store because I don't want to have to wait for it to arrive in the mail. Any ideas? Will a screen protector for another HTC device work? I just need it to cover the screen, don't care if it's not especially contoured for the Hero.

I have my 16GB microSDHC on order so that should be here Tuesday and I don't plan on putting any cases on it since the phone is stunning when it's naked.

You guys don't need to waste your hard earned money on a screen protector for the HTC Hero. It uses the same tempered glass screen as the iPhone which is virtually scratch proof. Unlike the Pre which uses a cheap plastic screen that can scratch the Hero does not. Just purchase a microfiber cloth to keep it clean and you will be good to go.

I just did this exact same process. I got tired of the Pre and all of its shortcomings, so I activated my backup Blackberry (which I love), deactivated the Pre and then sold it on Craigslist.

You don't need to get a second line to get the Hero. Simply go into a Sprint store (if there's one in your area), and buy the Hero, which will deactivate your Pre.

In my opinion, the switch and extra hassle is well worth it. The Hero blows the Pre out of the water in virtually every way except the multitasking.

Right, but I dont exactly wanna spend the $480 to get the Hero. I'd like to get it cheaper if possible. Thats why I'm figuring out my options.

Cancellation fee: 200
Hero after rebates: 180
Activation fee: 26
Total: 406
(sell pre) (250?)

new total: 156..... looks good to me

I keep my Pre and have no plans of getting rid of it. I will be switching back and forth between the Pre and Hero. Right now, I loving this Hero

You guys are the bomb. I'm getting mine tomorrow on CL. One question, I've been trying to accommodate myself to the Android forums. as far as I know, There hero for sprint (cdma) has no custom roms just yet?

Get back to me please. and thanks for the welcome into the forums.

Selling my pre tomorrow after I get my grubby paws on my first android phone.

I had all mine in a gmail account and all I had to do was log in and they were all there. Linking them with Facebook wasn't as seamless as with the Pre but the Hero is soooooooooooooooo much better than the Pre in my opinion. So many more options for software and for customization. I might actually keep this phone more than 3 months!! Yay!

i had a pre it was ok but i like the hero better

nice to know :)

i was on the precentral forums for a while, but the price of the pre is over 600 pounds, compared to the 400 for the htc (over the whole contract)........

i like the webos very much, but i think i'll wait for the next batch of phones from palm :)

I have several questions - maybe those of you that have the phone can answer for me:
1. Can you forward text messages?
2. Is there any form of cut, copy & paste on this phone?
3. When the phone rings can you really silence it by turning it over?
4. Is there any way to lock the screen when you answer a call so you don't push any buttons accidentally?
5. If anyone has the Pre and the Hero - how does battery life compare?

Any answers appreciated!

P.S. I have the Pre and my Hero is on order!!

I have both the Pre and Hero Sitting on my desk right now and I keep balancing back and forth between the 2 devices. I love the heroes apps and battery life and I love the pres form of multi tasking with the cards...This is tough :P, especially being a phone fanatic!!!

Overall the hero is more fluid and everything transitions well but I like the pres web browser more.

Still awaiting for somebody to answer this for me

There isn't "Sprint Picture mail" like they had on previous devices such as the htc touch, htc mogul, htc touch pro & diamond. SMS/MMS work in one window of the recipient you are socializing with.

This phone is fully multimedia capable so you should have no issue of any sort in regards to your .gifs.

Sprint picture mail is dumb and should have never been introduced.

I actually bought the Hero and had the Pre in operation until Friday. Yes, the multitasking was nice on the Pre but there are so many other features on the Hero that outweigh that! You can forward, cut, copy & paste and the phone DOES go silent when you turn it over! As far as there being a lock screen when on the phone that really isn't an issue as there aren't any buttons to push. Battery life is no comparison between the two - the Hero is far better!

Bye Bye Pre

I am also coming over from a Pre. I am still getting used to the Android OS. I loved my Pre, except it has HORRIBLE build quality. I have gone through 7 Pre's in the past 3 months and all were mfgr defects. First it powered off when closing the slider, than the screen stop responding on the replacement, then the GPS would not pick up a signal without restarting the phone (3 minute wait) and on an on. Palm makes a nice OS, but they need to focus on building quality hardware. Until then I am loving my Hero.

I have just ditched the Pre also and my Hero should be here anyday. I had quite the opposite experience, tons of bugs in the software and completely unacceptable battery life. Things like not being able to answer an incoming call or it ringing but nothing showing up on the screen. Slow response times. Problems were the same on mine and my wife's. Looking forward to getting the Hero...

You won't regret it. My wife and I had our Pres for 25 days... just enough to figure out how slow the interface was before the 30 day cut off. The Hero is VERY nice. Also, I don't know about you, but the Pre's quality seemed rickety to me. You'll love how the Hero feels in your hand.

Thanks. One of them should be here tomorrow. Now if I can get any money out of these pres I will be doing good, value has hit rock bottom...
