Compelling reason(s) to choose Nexus 10 over iPad 4?

Bought from Google Play (it was actually RMA'd, got it this past Friday). I should probably note that I was using it last night when it had about 20% battery left when it suddenly said it was drained. I thought that was bizarre but thought it was related to calibration being a new device. I plugged it in overnight (again, with the OEM cable and charger) and what you see is what I got. I should add that I have an N4 and I tested the charger and cable and it works fine.

I have no reason not to believe you but I always find it strange when some people go through multiple products all with problems. I have seen it with tablets, phones, etc. Almost makes you think it is user error of some sort or extremely bad luck. I hope you find a fix soon.

I agree. I have been thinking its user error but I've researched it to death, troubleshooted it over and over and still no luck. I never had these problems with my N7 aside from the random reboots.

Original charger and original cable. Both came in the box.

just for clairification have you been using the same charger on all 3 defective devices or a new charger that came with each unit shipped?

I've been using the charger that has come with each unit.

Have you tried plugging it in, let it charge for an hour or so, and then press the button for 1-2 seconds or so and then release. Give it a few seconds and see if the screen comes up.

I've had my Nexus 10 about 4 months and 5 days ago I was recently gifted an ipad with retina display. I have no allegiance to either product. Here are my thoughts. I am not tech savvy and I don't speak the lingo so in layman's terms.

The Nexus 10 is lighter. It downloads apps faster. Loads Web pages much quicker. The external speakers are better. Some of the same apps are cheaper on Google play. The touch screen on the nexus is much more sensitive and responsive. I did have random reboots on my Nexus, but an update has taken care of that and it's been operating flawlessly since.

So far after 5 days I've found that the ipad has better image quality. The battery life is phenomenal with super fast charging and yes you can find more accessories for an ipad.

Still exploring, but I think everything in life has it's pro's and cons, so it's going to boil down to personal preference. Good luck.

Not a lot of people touch on this. The speakers on the nexus 10 are the best I've heard on any tablet, and as a media consumption devices I think this would be a bigger deal for manufacturers. I watch tons of videos from Netflix YouTube HBOgo and showtime anytime and nothing compares to the N10, not ipads or any other tablet. Not only that but I listen to music from it while cooking, washing the car, doing laundry and ect, it even give the stereo aspect of content if it has it.

I see a lot of complaints about the HBO Go app, how do you find it? is it OK or did the update fubar it?

If you want an ecosystem filled with tons of proper Tablet apps, even from first parties, then the iPad wins by a landslide.

Harping on about hardware doesn't really make sense because the iPad has always performed well, and the recent gen hardware is good enough for at least a couple of years.

It's about the software, IMO, first and third party. The iPad is simply superior with the amount of proper tablet apps available, to the point where it is worth the higher price for many (obviously).

For me, the HBO Go app functions, but is unusable. It is grainy, jerky, and usually put of sync with the audio. Yes, there are a few on this forum that claim that HBO Go works great for them, but more users seem to have the same problems that I see.

I have been successful in getting Amazon Prime Instant Video working. I side loaded Adobe Flash, downloaded Firefox Beta (which can use flash), and now Amazon Prime is watchable.

The previous posts are correct that the iPad has more apps and more apps that work well. On the other hand, you can use external flash drives on the Nexus, which you cannot do with the iPad. I have decided to stay with the Nexus. I feel like I can do almost anything with it and don't have to be content to stay in Steve's walled garden.

Hbogo and android 4.2.2 do not mix well, I'm still on 4.2.1 so its perfect for me still. I'm kinda shocked HBO hasn't fixed this yet, but I'm assuming they are just gonna wait for 4.3 since its rumored to be out shortly.

Fixed on 4.2.2, but broken again on 4.3. You would be safe to upgrade to 4.2.2 now.
