Complete crap that ATT not giving us ICS!

Since you're already rooted, give this ROM a try. It's very smooth and stable. Stock camera works great, but the video camera still doesn't. Updates are very frequent and the developer is awesome.

Very true. I have been running aospX since v16 and love it. Updates are very regular. (about one per week). About the only thing that does not work without 3rd party apps is the Video recording but that should be fixed soon. No flash just pure ICS goodness. Runs very smooth and quick and stable.

I have actually tried this ROM, and was impressed. Existz is a great developer. I have also tried LorD ClockaN's (another great developer) ICS ROM as well (equally impressed). My irritation does not necessarily come from the fact that I need AT&T to obtain ICS. It comes from the simple fact that if they sell a device and lock a customer in a 2 year contract, they should provide full support for said device for extent of the contract. There is no excuse for them, HTC is still supporting this device along with the development community. Why aren't they? Saying that they want me to upgrage when I'm not even close to an upgrade does not make me think kinder of AT&T, it makes me despise them.

OK folks, Lets pretend you bought a laptop. It came with Windows 7. Do you expect the laptop manufacturer to give you Windows 8?

Of course not, you shell out $150 to Microsoft, and install a new OS. The Laptop manufacturer does not bug test it and optimize it with its applications.

Face it folks, you bought a product with an OS, you are not owed anything else. You want a new OS install it yourself. If they (ATT, etc.) promised you an upgrade, then you have a beef.

If not I have a nice platter of cheese for your consumption.

If the only "ethical" way of upgrading that laptop was through the laptop manufacturer, then hells yes! But the fact of the matter is they let you do what you want with the laptop, it's easy to update it yourself, and they ALLOW you to update it yourself.

Not so with phones. It's not even close to being the same thing.

Not necessarily, devs have shown that it works on the 4, 3Gs, and on my awful iPod touch 4 wth 256 mb ram.

No, it does require additional hardware to work as it should. There is an additional sensor on the front that only the 4s has.

Actually, Yes if it is new enough....

Most OEMs and retailers have a coupon deal to get the next update if purchased during the upgrade guarantee time frame.

I bought an HP TX2 that shipped with Vista, and HP gave me a free upgrade to Win 7, Dell did too. So the OS upgrade argument is somewhat moot. Now, that being said, while I would have loved to get ICS on my Inspire, I fully expected AT&T not to provide it. It is very agravating that the 2 year contract only means I have to keep paying my bill, and doesn't mean that AT&T has to provide me as much support as someone who is 2 months into their 24 month contract with the latest and greatest phone.

You have to look at it from a cost perspective. If all AT&T did was provide access to HTC's official ICS update it would be a no-brainer. Unfortunately, that's not the way the system in the U.S. with heavily carrier subsidized hardware works. AT&T takes the HTC update and bloats the hell out of it, and tests it on their network for months. I'm pretty sure that the average time between an official manufacture OS update release and AT&T providing it to customers is at least 6 months. Just thinking back to all the updates I've dealt with it's between 6 months and a year. This is going all the way back to WM 6.

Having said all that, what makes it complete crap that we are not getting any official ICS love, is that the Atrix is getting ICS. That PHONE was complete crap. Even with it's dual core it was slower than the Inspire. So it is very crap that a phone that is, what, a WEEK newer is getting the update!?

Well, as soon as a stable copy of the DHD ICS rom comes out it'll be on my phone...

Nuff said. Couldn't agree more.

You guys are forgetting the key fact, the Atrix is DUAL-CORE. Plus the Atrix was a higher priority phone than the Inspire for AT&T. It was their leading Android phone for half of 2011.

And Apple stopped supporting everything below the 3G 2 years ago.

Actually, it was March 2011. And they stopped updating it because the hardware could no longer handle the updated OS. (an issue the inspire shouldn't have)

The original iPhone was three years old and had not been on the shelf for two years when it stopped being updated. And the only reason why for that model was the lack of 3G.

I just Googled iPhone 3.1.3 software, which was the last update the original recieved. I know because I had one. It came out in Feb 2010.

I recommend you read my post again. The first part was about the 3g, the second part was about the original.

Not that this argument is going anywhere, but I stated that Apple stopped supporting everything below the iPhone 3G 2 years ago, and your reply was that it was 1 year ago.

It's irrelevant anyway. I rooted my Inspire once that crappy GB update came out.

If you go to the HTC website you will find no mention of the Inspire 4g. You cannot find it on the support page and if you do a search on their site, it will come up with one result that makes no mention of the Inspire 4g. It is like this phone never existed.

My hope, and I hate that four letter word, is that because this is the same phone as the Desire HD it will be getting the update. The reason I say this is that when you are on the Google Play Marketplace and purchase an app, you are asked what device you want to install it to and the phone comes up as the Desire HD. Also when I pair my BlueAnt Q2 headset to any of my phones it says the model of the device you connected to, mine that I have are the Inspire 4g and it says Desire HD, the Atrix 2 and it says MB865 and a crappy Blackberry Curve 8300 and it says Blackberry 8300.

Just my 2 cents.
