Computer won't recognize my Samsung Galaxy S3

I am not understanding...I dialed the #0808 number and nothing...cannot find where to change from photos to media...nothing is showing up as you guys describe it...I am using the Samsung Galaxy 3...my computer(laptop, Dell Alienware). I just recently upgraded to Windows 10.

I have tried every possible solution several times: new cable, connect to every usb port, restart the phone, update drivers, dial *#0808#, use different computers, nothing works.

what can I do?

Brilliant answer.
My Laptop (Dell E5500 Latitude) on Win7 was able to 'talk' to my Samsung S3.
I then upgraded to Win10 & everything else seemed fine (except Win10, of course - what a rubbish system!).
Except that my Samsung bacame 'USB device not recognised'.
I took out the S3 battery and restarted the device.
Plugged into the Laptop - AOK
