Concensus - MAXX HD or SIII

Perfect.

Either phone will do what you want to do then. So it comes down to newer hardware and the likely hood of getting that one extra upgrade in vs the extras that come from the manufacturer.

Battery life does play into this a little I will give maxx users that. They get great life out of that monster. Negating that though is the fact that with the sgs3, you can carry a spare and replace it if needed (or if the battery dies totally, which is rare). For a single charge, maxx is the winner. Overall on battery it is a push. I do get great life out of my sgs3, 14 hours or so.

I have to say that I am not all that well versed with moto blur but I am sure that the sgs3 has more features baked it. Yes it is ugly but I use apex launcher.

The Multi window function, smart stay, camera extras all make it more worth more to be than the moto. I know moto tries to stay close to stock, and smart actions are nice and very useful, but I will still take the sgs3

Next up is the hardware. The maxx HD has newer hardware, but it isn't that big a leap. Still the edge has to go to moto.

Samsung has proven that updates really aren't their thing. A few of their phone have missed out on updates they should have gotten. Yes I am looking at you atrix. They also have a bit of history screwing the consumer. Yes I am referring to the original RAZR, that got trumped by the maxx what a month after release? They should have been at the same time.

Samsung is getting much better at updates, though both phones will suffer at Verizon's hands, and keep supporting the older phones. The sgs2 is getting jb if I remember right.

I am giving the edge to samsung in the software and support department.

If you do decide to root and rom, the samsung is easier and there is a larger dev community.

Overall if I am given these two choices, I would take the sgs3. They both do what you need and do it well. The sgs3 has more going for it now and in the long run.

What I would do overall is wait. If your phone is doing what you need for now, see what is coming at the end of next month and when the sgs4 is announced and decide from there.

The battery life and features on the next gen are going to be out of this world.

The thought that battery life is a push is ludicrous. Complete loss of credibility to the author of that statement.

Like you I was torn between the two. I came from the iPhone 4. I did all the research, read reviews, asked questions, but what it really came down to was how they each felt and functioned in MY hands. I personally felt the Maxx had a more solid build to it. It really came down to the keyboard. I text a lot and could simply reach all the letters better and type faster on the Maxx. Yes the screen difference is only .1 inches, but the Maxx has the on screen buttons next to the keyboard which essentially shorten the keyboard up a bit. I'm not sure if that has since changed in the SIII with the update to JB.
I'd really recommend holding both, texting or typing a fake email, whatever before making your choice.

BS I explained why. On a single charge the maxx wins, but I can carry two batteries and swap them out if I need to.

Push

That involves cost and awareness of your charge. Being able to do anything without worrying about the battery or buying and carrying one around is priceless

My SGS still gets me through the day, 14-16 hours. Nothing to complain about there.

Cost is nothing for a battery, and if you own a smartphone, you are aware of your status.

If you want to talk potential cost, which battery is cheaper to replace in case of failure. In terms of both downtime and actual cost?

Overall it is still a push.

Our usage patterns must be a lot different. I think I have the smartphone users OCD disease - my phone is always out and lit up. That's the main reason I got the extended battery for the S3. I am just about flat by mid-afternoon if I don't grab a charge at lunchtime. The extended battery is nice, but bulky. The MaxxHD handles the larger battery much more elegantly. But chargers are dirt cheap too and I have them scattered all over the place - there are even two in my car. So realistically it's never an issue. You can see the problem here. You are choosing from two really excellent phones. The Maxx gives you battery with no fuss. The S3 gives you a somewhat bigger and better screen. They look a lot different - I like the looks of both. If you can live with a smaller battery (however you choose to - carry a spare, or a charger, or your usage is less, whatever) then that REALLY balances them out. Good luck :)

Yeah it is a no lose proposition.

I want to see first hand how much bulk the oem extended adds. It looks lime next to nothing.

I am thinking I am going to take the back cover off and use the extended inside the otterbox... No added bulk

I wish the Samsung extended battery would show up here. I could live with a smaller extended battery for less added bulk. I'm using the Onite, which is really pretty good. But it doubles the phone thickness. It's still thinner than my old Motorola flip phone though! :)

Lol yeah it is.

I have not seen them yet anywhere but I am patient. I figure around march

Try living with them both a while. It does make a difference.

My wife has S3, so I have lived with it as I use her phone from time to time. Makes no real difference to me.

Thanks for all the feedback. both are nice; tinkering w/ wifes S3 a little I had the Fascinate before TBOLT and am aware of samsung lack of updates which led me to the Bolt; then expericned the same Crap w/ HTC/VZW; and have seen moto ignore other handsets as well. They delivered JB on time as promised for the RAZR M/HD/MAXX HD and hopefully can keep em current and close to Vanilla android in look feel over the future. I Don't want to root; I want Google to RULE as they should and ensure all the carriers get the H3ll out of the way; just as Apple does w IOS updates - no bloatware, no delays and allow progress to be made and launch phones on carriers simultaneous as possible to help w/ Consumer choice - samsung did a good job with the S3 and Note/NoteII so far and i'm sure they will go for a repeat w/ the S4. Need to find a buyer for my VZW 64GB iP5 now :-)
