Confirmed: Verizon Nexus One Cancelled

I think the whole 'Verizon is trying to screw with the N1 because the Incredible is coming' arguments are invalid - I don't think they make much money on the phones - they make money on the service - so I'd think they'd have more incentive to push the N1 because there's no 'cost' on their end associated with hardware provisioning - just bending you over and making you pay out the wazoo for service.

and if Google is the hold-up - well they'd better release it before April 29th or they'll see even less sales as those people waiting for the N1 just go to their friendly VZW store and pick up an Incredible (and use any NE2 discounts etc available to them)

Or I could just be clueless...

except that if they sell it subsidized through Google - Verizon does have to cough up the difference between the price of the phone and the price of the subsidization...

so maybe I've dis-proven my own argument

and also if the hold-up really was with Skype and OS 2.1 - they wouldn't have pushed the Droid's updates through (two of my co-workers have Droids with the new update and Skype works just fine for them)

again - I just ramble now because I've got nothing better to do while I wait for the N1 to be announced (I won't be jumping ship to get the (un)Incredible unless they want full retail price for the N1

Of course, Verizon makes money on selling service. However, they also have to make Verizon retailer happy. There are some private Verizon store and they wouldn't be happy if Verizon allow N1 to release before Incredible. And they won't be happy if they have to put the post of N1 picture in their store where they can't even sell it.

And also Verizon allow existing customer to upgrade with new phone every year, not end of their 2 years contract. Even if N1 is subsidized, they probably don't let people to upgrade with 1 year. Since my contract isn't upto 2 years yet, I will probably get Incredible, or Pre or wait for Iphone. Plus I have family plan, probably it won't work on family plan unless I pay the whole phone price which I won't do.

I don't think Joe Average Consumer is going to know (or care much) about the Nexus One if they are going in to a Brick and Mortar store to get a phone - they want to go in and play with an actual phone before they buy it - and therefore the stores will sell more Incredible's or other devices. (it could also be a great marketing coup - 'Hey do you guys sell that Nexus One phone? No, but here's a 'better' phone called the Incredible! Wow thanks! I'm sold!')

I also don't expect to see any Nexus One adverts in any of the stores either - for the same reason - you can't buy it there (unless by some off chance Google changes their stance and makes the N1 available for sale in the stores - then this whole argument goes out the window)

This is going to be a tough choice. I just skimmed through the user manual for the Incredible that was leaked today, and I gota say... it's looking pretty sweet. I'm not entirely sold on the whole Sense UI thing, and am worried I might be loosing some Google functionality. But it appears there are some extra features as well, like built in FM radio, included tethering app, and a higher megapixel camera. Although I still like the physical looks of the N1 better.

Probably it's going to come down to whether or not I will be able to get the N1 subsidized on a Family plan. And if my NE2 will count towards the purchase price or not (probably not). Tough decision...

@twinturbostang: my understanding is that Sense can be disabled if you want to run regular Android UI

Ditto.. my sentiments exactly. I really wished the N1 would've come out first. But always said whichever comes out first, people are going to buy and give up on the other. I mean if the INC does drop the last week of April, and all the hoopla and joy around it being released, I just don't see someone saying, nah I'm going to holdout for the N1. I like the N1 design and more Google integration/rooting more than INC, but guess we'll have to see.

I can't wait now! INC it is! :) Sorry Google, you/VZW/someone f-ed it up big time. Google N1 sales, IF, it ever drops for VZW will suffer immensely unless they release it with some more specs/features that blow INC out of the water. Someone walking into a store is going to pick INC anyday over a web only N1 purchased phone.
Ohhh Google... tisk tisk

More or less. From what I hear some of the visuals can be disabled (eg: home screen layouts). However, it is still running Sense overtop of Android. Whether or not that's good/bad, I don't know. It could bog down or run slower with the additional code. Some Google features could still be missing, etc.

@nickacs: LOL. So what will you do now if Google does actually release the N1 before the Incredible?? :)

Haha :) Actually I would wait until I went into the VZW store and played with the INC. But honestly, it would be a tough choice!
As the 'ol saying goes, 'I'll wait to cross that bridge when (if!) it gets here!' :D

The only thing that I am really interested in the N1 is noise cancelation - I saw a demo of that and its really pretty incredible (no pun intended - really!).

Reading up on the incredible though - I'd probably be happy with it as well.

Google def messed up their opportunity to make breakout sales with the N1...the Inc is now getting way more buzz than it
