Confirmed: Verizon Nexus One Cancelled

By the way, just called Verizon to check on my worry free guarantee date (3/19 they're saying - they don't take into account that february is only 28 days!!), and mentioned that I'm planning on switching to the N1 when it comes out. Very nice rep, but said "we haven't heard anything about the Nexus 1". I just said that was the word on the street. I'm guessing this doesn't mean much because Google is so secretive, but we'll see...

How confident do we actually think this release date is? It's one thing if it was a VZW corporate rep that leaked the date, but Google has no real say as to when the phone is released (just when they'll have the initial batch made). Look at the VZW BlackBerry Tour 2 / Bold 9650 for example. It was strongly rumored to be out Feb 3, but it's still not out (rumors say a June release now).

Could someone explain, if it's true that this phone is a CDMA-only device, why would you get one unsubsidized? Are there other smaller carriers that have better deals than Verizon or Sprint? Just asking.

Odds are that Verizon is only providing a plan (or plans) for the phone that Google will be selling. I'm willing to bet that Verizon is not going to be selling this phone.

I'm still amazed at how many people aren't getting this - that the whole idea of the Nexus One is for Google to sell the phone without selling it through the carrier.

How might this work? VZW doesn't offer plan discounts for unsubsidized phones.

If verizon would allow me to do an early upgrade I would ditch my storm for the N1 in a heartbeat. If not, I might be buying my mom's upgrade from her.

We get that Verizon's not selling the phone. The point I was making that Verizon's not going to have their employees mention anything about the N1 without an official announcement from either company.

Points 1,2 & 4 make sense. Point 3 seems more of taking a bet on futures... buying the phone now hoping that it won't have to sit dormant indefinately. To each his/her own.

I would just like to add a few points to ponder. As far as Verizon Wireless offering a cheaper plan for non-subsidized phones; I do not think they will go down this path right now. I know for a fact that VZW has watched in horror the AT&T iPhone debacle and that they have begun to beef up their back haul network. Lots of people have asked me when VZW will be getting the iPhone, but from what I hear VZW does not want the iPhone just yet. The Droid has put a huge strain on the wireless infrastructure already and any new data intensive device will just exacerbate the issue. Further more, VZW has not realized the expected growth in the wireless industry this past fiscal year so their commitment to capital investment in 2010 will not be similar to say AT&T's.

So, if VZW were to offer a subsidized N1 or they were to offer a discounted rate for non-subsidized phones they would most likely see an influx of data intensive devices like the N1 and this would strain the network. Lacking the funds to substantiate the infrastructure would most likely put VZW in a position similar to AT&T and they can not afford that at this time.

If that's the case, then why is VZW offering a BOGO deal on all of their smartphones. I think that would increase demand on their data stream as much, if not more, than the release of a new device with subsidized pricing.

The problem I have is I would like to put this phone with a family plan...however if it goes in the same fashion as T-Mobile goes it is required to have it on a single plan for a certain amount of time and you have to choose a specific plan or higher during the contract. Even if Verizon doesn't offer discount pricing for unsubsidized phone, I want to choose my own minutes and options...thus making it cheaper over the life of the phone. To me that's worth $550, which will actually not cost $550 in the end. It won't be like on T-Mobile a $49 unlocked Nexus One, but still close to the same cost of a subsidized phone or cheaper, plus more flexibility.

I hope Verizon and Google do some sort of commercial like Motorla and Verizon did for the Droid, but I bet they won't. HTC's logo is Quietly Brilliant, which screams great product with not a lot of fanfare and Google has not done a lot of commercials on their own, except for the Super Bowl. Although, it would be cool to see the Google web Nexus one commercial followed with a simple Verizon graphic and a release date on my tv.

I typically do not go in to the store and buy any phone even when I was not buying a Nexus One. I usually went through the online Verizon store or ordered through Verizon on the phone. Typically saw better deals and did not have to go into a crowded super store and wait.........and wait............and wait. So I am looking forward to placing my order online through Google for a Nexus One that works on Verizon's network. I have already ordered my extra battery, case, and screen protector. Just 21 more days............

You may have wanted to wait to see if the CDMA one is any different in size/look before ordering accessories.

The GSM and CDMA HTC phones in the past have had slight differences. Accessories don't always match unfortunately.

Well I thought about that and if it is any different I will return them or sell them on craigslist or ebay. But seeing how this is Google's phone I would not be suprised if the are identical except for the radio.

We may want to change plans if we're banking on a March 23rd release. Apple's suit against HTC was "coincidentally" filed right after this release date leak. There's no way in hell Apple wants any more of AT&T's customers leaving for Verizon, so they're doing everything they can to delay/compromise the release.

It so funny to see Apple Inc shaking in their boots over the competition.

Sad part is they're taking a stab at manufacturer instead of the financier (Google).

If Apple can force HTC under, then Google has no manufacturer for the Nexus One... thus competition eliminated.
