Confirmed: Verizon Nexus One Cancelled

If Apple can force HTC under, then Google has no manufacturer for the Nexus One... thus competition eliminated.

You make a good point, but I think Google and HTC will take a combined hard line on this lawsuit, and if anything, push the product through right on schedule so shove it in Apple's face.

But yeah, Apple's clearly shaking in its boots.

Do you seriously think this? Apple's mobile phone share continues to grow. This is clearly a shot across the bow, but one that was promised from the beginning - on the day in 2007 that they announced the iPhone, Apple asserted that they had over 200 patented technologies and that they intended to protect them aggressively.

So, sure, Apple is definitely using this club, but to see this as a sign of "fear" by Apple I think is really stretching it.

It will take years for this to play out. I don't think that Apple has enough of a slam dunk argument to prevent the importation of HTC devices at this point. Remember that Nokia filed a similar suit against Apple several weeks ago. It hasn't hurt Apple a single bit yet. These lawsuits have a long time before any decision or settlement is reached.

you really think so? overall the N1 has been a failure. i hate to say it, but its the truth. no one wanted to this phone to be succesful more than me. as i sit back and watch everything unfold while i wait for my VZW version it is quite evident that the phone was not ready to ship, wasnt tested properly, and basically is a laughing stock to anybody on Cupertino's side. every week something new.

Couple points - first, the iPhone wasn't an instant success either, it took a bit of time to refine things before it really took off, and it took superdevelopment of the app store.

Second, Google, in a lot of ways, has more user credibility than Apple. Apple makes great hardware, arguably, but Google has something much more powerful, and that's... well, everything else. Every search, e-mail, calendar entry, and now everything I do on my phone, is directly a result of Google, and it just works. And I'm clearly not the only one! So all that's lacking is for the hardware to catch up to the software, and they're accelerating quickly.

How could Apple not be worried about that competition?

With all the issues with the phone that have been popping up here and there, how many people are still going to be buying the Nexus One? I am beginning to think more and more about just waiting for the HTC Incredible, or waiting for people to recieve their Verizon version of the phone to see if some of these issues are still present in their units.

very well said. the latter is why i am still going forward with a google phone, google on the back end is extremely powerful. but the hardware problems are borderline inexcusable. this is Googles first handset but it is not HTC's first handset. imagine the nexus one's specs optimized by Apple. it is amazing that the sad old iphone can still manhandle it in most aspects.

You sure about this? The Android OS market share has grown very quickly in the past year. HTC's market share alone grew .6% this past year if I remember correctly. The only other company that grew was Apple. RIM stayed the same and Nokia fell. It's no coincidence that Apple waited until Google and Android became a powerhouse before they began enforcing their patent(s). They're not going to spend money unless their financial security is at risk (i.e. competition).

Now for a little taste of irony... Steve Jobs once said, "Good artists copy; great artists steal."

I am taking nothing away from Android's growth in the last year, but the growth in US share was 2.7% more than last year, while Apple was 1.3% more than last year. With Apple at about 25% and Android at about 5%, Apple has quite a while before they have to start worrying all that much about Android. And I wonder whether their share would be well over 30% if the iPhone were also on Verizon, Sprint and T-Mobile. Having the iPhone on only a single carrier is limiting Apple's potential market share.

In my opinion this lawsuit is closer to the Yankees pointing out an illegally sized bat used by the other team during a game against a college baseball team than it is for them to do so during a game against the Red Sox.

16 more days and counting. Looking forward to placing my order for the Verizon version of the Nexus One. Has anyone heard of any updates or cahnges to the CDMA version? will it have Flash 10.1, etc....

im with you Chuck. Been waiting for the N1 on verizon so i can get rid of this storm for good.

I realize its just a guess at this point but what do you guys think the price will be for the nexus one for Verizon?

I've been reading a couple forums and on another one I've been reading...there are a couple different people in different areas that have went in to VZW stores and were hinted to that they would be probably selling the N1 in the store. Now I believe with the model that Google is trying to set...this won't be the case. However a good point is made, VZW likes to control phones and be able to give technical service on the phones they service. It seems hard for me for them to let this go and let Google sell them just online. Would anyone else be disappointed if they were sold in stores? One of the pulling forces for me with the N1 is that it's not the iPhone...not everyone has it and not a lot of people would be willing to buy it sight unseen. I like that fact you have to do your research and almost learn the phone before purchasing it, to make sure you'll be happy with it. It's makes it special to me...IDK. Anyone else?

I am a current Storm owner, and I am looking forward to and hoping they sell this phone in Verizon stores. I would like to actually try the phone in store before I purchase it. If they do not sell this phone in stores, it is not a deal breaker for me, but would be more of a roadblock. I have been with Verizon for years and never had an issue buying or getting service in store. I do have to say one advantage is hopefully not having to wait for Verizon's technical acceptance to "approve" an operating system. I am hoping Android is the way to go, I am getting annoyed by my Storm, and it is about time to get rid of it.

Do you know if the Nexus One on VZW will be CDMA only or will it be a "global phone"?

I dunno if it'll be a world phone. Finding a CDMA world phone is pretty difficult (I know, I know verizon carries world phones).

Sadly I fear it wont =/

I am not sure why all of our smart phones aren't since Vodaphone owns Verizon Wireless.

We still don't even know that Mar23 is the actual release date yet, do we? Hopefully we hear something soon.

So this seems very exciting...I don't know what their source is but they say it's confirmed March 23rd! Seems a bit shady though...how come no one else has said anything?

I guess some news is better than no news. I would imagine Google will want to get this out before the Incredible makes its debut.

That website seems kinda shaddy, hopefully it's confirmed by someone else later today. It does make sense to launch it during that conference though..
