Confirmed: Verizon Nexus One Cancelled

Where'd you hear that? Google CAN'T take over those updates, because most carriers still need to put their stamp of approval on aspects of the software to make sure they don't mess with the network or the customer experience. No carrier in America would let Google take over that.

What you're referring to has nothing to do with that; Google has (not officially mind you) decided to spin out certain core features of android into separate apps for the market that can be updated by the user regardless of their version number. This will allow ALL users to benefit from updated features like the gallery without having a full system update.

When it comes to phones with UI layers like Sense, updates are going to be delayed and there is NO way around it. Every time Google and developers release a full system update (like the jump from 2.0-2.1), that UI layer and its features have to be rewritten and recoded to take into account changes in the underlying Android code. This process is not fast by any means, and you WILL wait for updates compared to stock versions of android.

Heard it on just about every tech/nerd/android site about a month back. I am surprised you didn't notice it.

I get it, we all get it. N1 fans feel threatened by the incredible. But what you fail to realize is that people are going to buy the N1 anyway! The N1 won't be forgotten or ignored. Just I say don't make your purchasing decisions based on what some kids on a forum think/say. Everything you read on the internet isn't true!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

The N1 one will hit soon. Heck, it could hit at the same time as the Incredible. Anyone figure that? The Eris dropped at the same time the Droid did! I can't see a reason why it wouldn't (or on the other side, why it would). HTC, GOOGLE, and VZW are all making money regardless if the N1 is being sold at the same time as the Incredible. So don't think this is a ploy for profits, because its all the same three players.

I think you're right. I'm hoping that the N1 drops at the same time the Incredible does. I think that would be ideal for all parties involved.

Well technically you can buy the Incredible right now. So it has already dropped. Who's hoping tommorrow is the day for the N1 as VZW can't say they are waiting to sell their new phone as its already for sale. Yes you may not get the Incredible till the 29th but at least you can lock in your purchase.

You have no idea what you're talking about. That had NOTHING to do with the android CORE; only with certain features that are currently bundled with full system updates.

Chuck - I hope you're right

and I hope it lives up to the hype and makes the incredible look like a speak n spell

They probably won't need it now considering they have the Incredible. But if you ask me, the Incredible is uglier than the Nexus One(not saying that its ugly)

I'm kinda on the fence. I think I'd be happy with either phone, but one thing I don't like about the incredible is the back of the phone looks like it could get easily damaged or scratched. My last couple phones were all S60 N-Series devices (I have an N97 right now) and each one has a camera cover - and I've never had a problem with scratching any of them.

N1 conversely seems to be flush with the back - while its not covered its probably going to last a bit longer in my pocket.

Also there is the noise cancellation tech - working in IT that might come in handy.

I believe Google shall reward those of us who are patient....I will await the Nexus One

I think the N1 hold-outs are dropping like flies. Myself included.

Granted, I'm still waiting on my preorder to see if the N1 comes out this week. But if it does, it's going to have to be packing something serious for me to change back.

Sure I still think the N1 is a nicer looking phone. But the Incredible seems to be much faster, more internal memory, higher res camera (not too important to me though since I own a Nikon DSLR), and a newer touchscreen without the multitouch issues. There just seems to be fewer and fewer reasons to wait for the N1.

Tomorrow's your day Google. You've got to WOW us big time!

Verizon Nexus One "Surprise" Possibility?

Is it at all possible that the surprise we keep hearing about could be the ability to not only do voice, but also data at the same time? Could they have implemented a way to accomplish this? I have read about a phone with possible dual radio capability...could this be used? Is it even possible?

And if not...then what could it be?

No multi-touch issues? I hate to sound like a pessimist but doesn't that remain to be seen, or have there been test of this already? It was my impression both N1 and Inc screens are similar.

I like the Incredible too, but ... you realize that the Incredible has the same cpu, same amount of physical ram (different amount of storage ram), same AMOLED display (which means same multi-touch issues) as the N1 correct?

Edit: my mistake - I guess it is a different display.

Check out the front page of Android Central. Phil posted a video with some pretty encouraging results.

@cesjr02 - on the Android Central homepage you'll see Phil doing a test which shows that the Inc. screen is issue free. I want to wait and see what the surprise is with the CDMA Nexus because of it's look and feel but I'm finding it harder and harder to wait.

Verizon's network doesn't support simultaneous voice and data. Personally, I don't see any surprises coming, particularly if they announce they are no longer planning to sell it.

CDMA, well WCDMA can do both voice and data, unfortunately Sprint nor Verizon have updated their networks. So, no voice and data for us.
