So when the gingerbread was released I didn't wait for the OTA to come out I downloaded the zip. Is that technically rooting then? Because I just got the OTA update for 2.3.4 and im hesitant to install it because I dont want to brick my phone. Help!

How did you install the .zip file over your old DX2 Android OS?

Added it to my sdcard (I think, it was either that or internal memory) and loaded it from the startup menu using the volume button method.

If it was just the zip or sbf file from 2.3.4 you should not be rooted. I just don't understand why it would show an update if your on the updated version. Mine never has. Also to check root see if you have an app in ur drawer called superuser. Or dl an app that requires root. If your not rooted you should be able to take the update, because you haven't froze or deleted anything. What does your about phone screen say ur running?

The one I installed manually was 2.3.3...so if I should be good i'll go ahead and install the OTA 2.3.4

if you are rooted, just unroot. you wont have any problems. if verizon cannot turn the phone on, they will also replace it because they cannot prove it is rooted.
