Any Note 8 owners considering a mate 10 pro or better yet, have any of you made the switch? I'm a few months into owning my note 8 and have had the itch for something different for a while now. The mate 10 pro checks off many of the boxes but I wanted to get some feedback from others who were in the same boat.. After trying out almost every popular Android device I always see myself coming back to the note 8 but as a consumer, I find that it's always nice to learn more about what else is out there.

Definitely give it a go. :)

I had one for 2months for review and it was a lovely device. I had it along side my daily phone which is a Galaxy Note8 to.

The Mate10 Pro is a lot more compact and much more ergonomic than the Note8.

What was better in the Mate10 Pro:
- Fingerprint Scanner, it was faster and more accurate
- UI transitions, faster
- Battery Life, the Mate10 Pro runs circles around the Note8 in this area, I would get a 1 full day and a half of heavy usage out of the Mate10 Pro vs my Note8 which got 1 full day.
- Charging, the Mate10 Pro charges a lot faster despite having a larger battery.
- Size and weight, Mate10 Pro is easier to hold and keep in the pockets, it's also a lot lighter.
-Stereo Speakers, much better than Samsungs mono speaker.
- Cat.18 support, the Mate10 Pro supports future LTE standards, if your network already supports Category 18 LTE, then this is the phone you want!
- Signal strength, the Mate10 Pro seemed to hold 4G LTE signal better.

What was better in the Note8:
- Camera, it is more reliable in terms of quality and so much more consistent to.
- Display, the Note8's display is in a whole other league, the Mate10 Pro simply could not match the Detail, Brightness and Vividness of the Note8 Display.
- UI, TouchWiz/Samsung Experience UIis a lot more mature vs. EMUI, and you pick this up as you use the Mate10 Pro and notice the inconsistencies all over the UI.
-Email, the Samsung Email app is still unrivalled, IMO, it's far more reliable and more openly accepted by companies in terms of MS Exchange.
- The SPen, if you love the SPen best believe NOTHING the Mate10 Pro doesn't will replace the SPen.
- 3.5mm jack, although I used BT headphones there were days I had to charge them and it was easier to use the 3.5mm jack built-in to the Note8 vs. Having to carry around the 3.5mm jack dongle Huawei give you for the USB-C
- Bluetooth, the Note8 seems to be better supported by most car BT systems and has BT5.0, which allows it to be connected to multiple devices and steam audio to them. The Mate10 Pro did not place nice with the Jaguar XE infotainment system (if you have a Jaguar or Land Rover/Range Rover it may be an issue).

Overall, the Note8 is the better device for me primarily due to the SPEN, but the Mate10 Pro is very close, and that battery life is just so phenomenal.

Hope this helps.

All the best :)

Thank you for this! So it still seems as if you're leaning towards the note 8. I think my best bet would be to buy one on Amazon, try it out for 2 weeks and then decide. If not I can always return it!

Yes, overall Note8 did it for me, but I was left incredibly impressed with that Mate10 Pro, so I definitely say give it a try and see what you think.

Have you looked at an S9+ as an alternative? Or are you sticking it out until the Note 9? I'm on JOD so I have alot of options but would be buying the mate 10 pro outright if I were to get it. I'd probably jump down to a less expensive device that I'd keep as a backup if I were to actually go through with keeping the M10P.

Haven't looked at the S9+, I am waiting for the Note9 :)
I am so happy with my Note8, and never want to leave the Note brand again, I had to skip the Note7 for obvious reasons and reallyissed having a Note device.

To me the S9+ is more like a Note8 without the SPen.

Agreed. My changing devices would have to be more drastic in order for me to switch from the note 8 to anything else.

Nope! I don't trust devices made by Huawei. Remember, the People's Republic of China is still a Communist country. Huawei is beholden to the government, regardless of what it publicly says. That is why the US government does not allow Huawei products for US government networks.

I don't think the Chinese government cares about the Netflix, games, emails or porn we watch on our phones lol.

"All your data are belong to China''

Perhaps not, but all the spyware could make things laggy.

Do you guys realize that every phone company collects some sort of data on it's users for one reason or another? The only gripe I've ever had with a Chinese phone company was when my card information was stolen when purchasing a OP5T and the person spent almost 7k at Saks.

Nothing out there and I mean NOTHING that can replace spen. I have no interest in any other phone except Note 9. It's that simple.

Wow. How do you know it was the company you bought it from though?

Anyway, China is communist, but communist lite. It's nothing like the Soviet Union or North Korea. Their people are allowed more freedoms and more capitalist.

If sanctions were loosen like lets say they give up Nukes and they start producing phones to export, would you buy a DPRK phone lol? Kim Jong Un could know everything about you!

I couldn't agree more with you, OP: it's always good to find out what else is out there! That's why I like to try a different manufacturer each time I upgrade to a new phone!

I've heard good things about the Mate 10 Pro. I say go for it! You can always switch back to the Note 8 if you decide that it suits your needs better!

Any real proof?

Consider all the tech that comes thru China, even Apple.
There was an issue with disk drive firmware once too.
You probably believe not to trust Kaspersky. Based on conjecture and circumstantial.
And now we see criminals and malware also State actors with NSA toys. That once created were bound to get out.

I was blown away by performance, battery, of the Mate 9.

You can also get the Mate 10 pro Porsche edition as well!

One thing is the lack of cases. Not a lot of cases for the Mate.

I was looking at the Porsche edition. Not sure if I'd drop 1300 US (tax included) on a phone. It comes loaded with accessories and historically they retain their value much better... Still not sure.

The Mate 10 has very good hardware, but the software is a mess. I tried it twice and spent days trying to get things to work right (and I previously had the Mate 9 and other Honor devices) and many things just do not work right. The software is just bad.

Can you provide some examples? Was going to order one to try out tomorrow but if it's that 'messy' then I don't know...
