Considering a switch from windows phone, what android phones meet my criteria?

So I've been using windows for quite a few years now.
I've liked it so far and I don't have a huge need for apps.
Not in love with wm10 though, seems every time ms gives us something, they take something else.

I'm not ready to go all in on android, just like to see how I like it, then later I could get something higher end like a galaxy 7. I don't want to do a 30 trial with a phone I can return, I don't think that's enough time to decide if a phone is for me or not. I know many cursed windows phone that barely ever used it, that's not how I do things.
Size, somewhere around 5.5 inches, give or take a little.
Absolutely must have qi wireless charging internally, not interested in any type that requires plugging something into the port. If the battery cover has it integrated that's ok.
Must have a good camera, I have a one year old that we take lots of pics of.
I'd also prefer if I was to break the screen it still works fine. I know I had to use a mouse with a adapter to back up a friends android (I think LG) phone that he cracked the screen so I could back it up for him. I am in a construction field, there is definitely a chance I break the phone even with a silicone gel case on it.
I'd say I want a better screen resolution, but most phones are going to be notably better than the lumia 830 I currently use.
Has to have a good signal strength. Where I live has a lot of fringe areas for ATT and version (i'm on ATT).

I will mostly make calls, use the internet, text, take pics. Definitely NOT a power user.
Battery time is also important. Has to easily make it though the day, something all my windows phones do and have done.

I'd like to keep the price around $300, preferably new in box. It can be last years model as long as it will get the most recent update.

Right now i'm thinking about the Motorola Nexus 6.
Amazon has the US version unlocked new for just about $300.
Seems like a decent deal to me, but i'm not sure what other phones to consider.

Opinions?

Motorola Droid Turbo 2. Shatterproof screen, 5.4" screen 1440p, humongous 3760 mAh battery. It's a Verizon phone, but can be made to work on other networks because Verizon phones are sim unlocked. The international version is the Moto X Force. Turbo 2 is right around $300-310 mint condition on Swappa.

Honestly, with the criteria you listed, the Moto Nexus 6 is probably your best bet. The Nexus 6P from Huawei is an awesome device, but no wireless charging. I do miss that a little. But everything else it has, it's a trade I am willing to make. And you can get the Nougat beta, which, while I have been running it since only this morning, is quite good. Don't know if the 6 is scheduled to get it.

Figures, after I made this post, I went in the pool with my 830.
So used to getting dressed and putting my stuff in my pockets, I did it with my bathing suit.
Put my sim in my backup 640, went to check out phones.
I was pretty impressed by the galaxy s7, not so impressed by the price.

Thanks for the input, i'll check out the turbo 2.

I may be all in now on android, since now I will need a new main device as opposed to a secondary one to try it out.

Keep us updated in your phone quest! Good luck, and feel free to come back and ask us any questions!

Sorry to hear about the demise of your Lumia! :( It sounds like it served you well. Happy phone hunting!
