Constant random reboots since ICS

I found my transformer at the booty screen with the grey circle twice now. Both times it was in the keyboard dock and fairly warm. I have not had it reboot on me while using it, it only tends to happen when it sits idle. Mine is also completely stock

That's a good description of what I have also encountered with gmail. The serious lagging comes and goes, and may be relieved for a bit with a reboot or cold reboot, but it always returns. I suggest that for the near term, you consider powering your TF down completely if you are leaving for an extended period, to avoid the possible complete battery depletion.

I just finished a Factory Reset, despite my expectations that it won't make a whit of difference, based on the input from others. I figure I needed to get that out of the way before I submit a support ticket to ASUS. If I'm wrong, and it actually helps, I'll be the happiest TF user on the planet.

Ok...let us know how the factory reset works out. It's really not too big a deal...what's holding me back is I feel I may run into a problem with re-activating Sygic and I'll be needing that app pretty soon on a trip..

I've got Sygic, too. I'll let you know how that goes.

I had both the 'wouldn't turn on' and reboot 'loop' that drained the battery since upgrading(?) Saturday. Yesterday seemed ok, but I am concerned the problem is so widespread. Hope Asus gets a fix soon

Based on Asus' past, and the fact they have been patching the Prime fairly regularly lately, I'll give them the benefit of the doubt for now that a patch is forthcoming

Last night I ran a backup with the stock backup software and also with App Backup and Restore. Hopefully I won't need them but just in case...

I keep manually checking for updates in case a fix comes soon.

I'm still alive after about 6 hours, and have everything pretty well reloaded and activated. I suspect it's just a matter of time for the bug to do its stuff, though. I won't feel optimistic until a couple of days pass without incident.

Sygic (and Copilot Live) didn't automatically install from Android Market, but I was able to search each of them and download them manually. Sygic installed and activated for me - I just had to download the maps again, it pulled in the map downloader secondary Sygic app for me, and I needed to have my UserID/Password, and later the Product code to complete the install and activate.

Thanks.. Good to hear about Sygic. Strange it didn't install from the market. Did you install your apps clean or did you use asus backup? Look forward to seeing how its doing in a few days. What a PITA for a Monday evening

Yup, a bit of a PITA, but I had another reason to do it. After many plays, my wife's favorite game Random Factor Mahjong no longer works, just exits after the splash screen, and nothing will restore it except a Factory Reset, at least as far as I've been able to determine. It's happened to us twice now.

I just had backed up the app data. It seemed the backup app was limited to 600mb, so it wouldn't let me save all of the apps and data anyway. Every time I went over that size, it grayed out on me. Android Market auto installed my apps, and I restored the data. I think it would have been just as well to let the apps rebuild their data, but it's done now.

Ok question for everybody. Have you disabled any apps? When you disable an app it throws up a nag screen and I just ignored it. Could this be causing issues? I disabled Kindle, TegraZone, and Zinio.

Nope. I didn't have any disabled.

I had my first incident of the screen locked after reboot this morning. I had to hard-reset (power button + volume up). So, is Asus monitoring or getting all of these problems mentioned here in this forum or do we need to tell them directly (geting a ticket? etc.)

Submitting a support ticket with ASUS is the right approach, I think, but I would make sure I have all of my ducks lined up before submitting it. I did a Factory Reset yesterday morning, just to have done everything I could to resolve it first, but so far, I haven't seen any more instability.

Vic let us know if the factory reset fixes your problem!

I'll let you know right away if the problem returns, and will update tomorrow if we manage two days without issues.

Wife is happily playing Mahjong, while listening to Amazon MP3, so if I get a strange look from her, I will know the gremlins have returned.

^^I also wonder that. If they are using shared files, maybe it can cause issues with other apps. I disabled Google+ but the tablet still rebooted.

I too have been having these reboots and this morning it froze on the startup screen. The last several days, I have been removing apps that I felt may be suspicious in causing a conflict with ICS. I've removed, dual battery widget, live wallpaper, and some other apps I rarely use. Nothing so far has helped fix the situation. I've been trying to figure what app or function is causing the reboots. I noticed on the last three reboots I was attempting to play an embedded video from a three different site (Foxnews, News360, and yahoo) I don't think the problem is the sites, but more the video app. After it buffers, it begins to play and then either freezes and reboots or shortly there after reboots.

About 48 hours have passed since I did my Factory Reset. I haven't seen any incidence of the lagging behavior that showed up especially when accessing gmail. That problem had been occurring with a pretty high frequency prior to the reset.

I did have one other anomaly, though. Yesterday, about 30 hours into the exercise, I activated the Unlock with Wi-Fi app, and within 2 hours encountered a boot loop condition when the tab had been left idle for a bit. I removed the app, and subsequently left the tab off the charger overnight, with no more spontaneous reboots and lockup condition. I don't know if the app was the source of that problem, and I will continue to monitor behavior.

I feel reasonably confident that the factory reset has resolved the lagging issue with my current configuration. As I continue to activate apps, it could return, but if I'm paying attention, I can correlate the problem and the apps.

Using the Fox, News360 and yahoo apps, I couldn't get the problem to show on my TF, although the Fox images were only about a third screen height. Using the Pulse app, I was able to cause a problem when I started an Engadget video (Navy test-fires...). The audio played, but no video, and after exiting, I saw the lagging and erratic gmail behavior that I've seen before. It varied, but wouldn't clear up entirely. It never crashed, but I ended up forcing a reboot to restore normal operation. Not sure what to make of that one.

I guess the Factory Reset didn't resolve the spontaneous reboot problem on my system.

I came home this evening after being away for just a short time, to the tab locked in a reboot, and I had to force a reboot. Bummer. CPU Spy shows only a few seconds of the idle time in deep sleep, and the great majority of it at 1000MHz, which is unusual. I think I have enough info to submit my ticket to ASUS support now.

Until there is a definitive fix, I don't plan to leave my tab powered on for extended idle periods, just for the sake of battery discharge. At least it reduced the incidence of lagging that was showing up so badly on gmail, so it wasn't a total loss.

FWIW, I just submitted a support request to ASUS.
