Constant WiFI issues, AT&T Note 8

Since installing the last AT&T update I have a lot of problems with WiFi. It will be good for x minutes on my home network, then the antenna bars will attenuate up and down. Shortly after that, I'll get the dreaded exclamation point next to the wifi bars which means it can connect to the router, but there's no internet.

Which isn't true, because every other device in the house (there are *tons* of them) have zero issues connecting. So the only thing that has worked so far is toggling wifi on and off but this is a band-aid fix because in x minutes (it changes, i tried timing it but it's inconsistent) it will crap out again.

Anyone else have this problem or similar? Suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Sometimes an update makes things unstable. Try clearing your caches by going into the firmware menu. It looks like for the Note 8 you do it as follows: with device powered off, hold volume up and the Bixby button, then hold the power button. Keep holding these buttons until you see the green Android display then release.

There will be a utility menu, and one of the options will be to wipe the caches. Select that and when it finishes reboot the phone.

What update recently? I'm on August security patch on AT&T and no updates for weeks now.

Anyway, I happen to have this same issue yesterday twice within like 5 minutes. Had to toggle WiFi on and off twice to get things rolling again. No repeat since then. But I have had no updates applied recently so just thought my home Internet is missbehaving.

Tried this, thanks for your help though. I also did device maintenance and cleared network settings. Deleted apps i didn't absolutely need, issue persisted. Just wiped it. Time to start over..again..

Yeah it was that update that did it for me. Have had intermittent wifi issues since then. Had another issue that I can't remember but this is the second time I had to wipe because of that update.

Okay so wiping it didn't fix it either. I guess this is life until the next software update hoping it fixes it.

Took mine back to store.. Had it Backes up.. Hard reset.. Only using it with built in apps.. I haven't installed any apps. It's worked flawlessly for 4 days now.. Not sure what to make of this

Thank you, was looking for that!

For AT&T, just ask at the store where the Device Support Center is (or look it up). Take the phone to them. Even if they have to reflash the ROM, they usually have some way of fixing almost any software problem (unless it's a problem in the software itself, and then you'd see many, many complaints here and elsewhere).

Just remember to fully back up everything first - they might end up having to wipe everything on the phone to fix it.

Disable your routers ipv6...I found out that I had great connection with the browsers but apps like Facebook, Android Central, XDA, Instagram, etc. would have trouble connecting -- that is until I disabled ipv6 in my routers admin settings

Uverse, specifically, has bad IPv6 implementation. I've had to disable it entirely.

What does that setting do?

IPv6 is the "new" network addressing system that seeks to solve the whole "the internet is running out of addresses" problem.

Unfortunately, implementation is still spotty at best and completely broken at worst, which is why some of us recommend turning it off.
