My phone has been doing random things, called sprint and they wanted to do a hard reset to my phone. However when I got my phone no one told me to set up a gmail account so my phone would be backed up. They are telling me there is no way to add them now other than writing them down. Then when I do the hard reset to then add a gmail account. I created a gmail account but now my phone won't let me add it, says it can't verify the account. Luckily my internet started working again so I avoided the hard reset this time. But based on what I told sprint my phone had been doing he said I may have to do a hard reset in the near future.

Does anyone know how to go back and get the gmail account added and have it back up my contacts?

Under setting -> Accounts & sync, you can add gmail accounts to your phone. As for backing up your contacts I recommend using Lookout. It's a free app from the market that will backup contacts and photos online. You just setup an account and then you can go online and restore contacts or photos. It's a nice app that has a lot of good features.

Why? If all that needs done is backing up contacts, gmail does a good job of it. Now, if it's more than contacts, then yes, look into an app for it.

Sent from my CDMA Hero. I got some hot Froyo on Hero action here!

From within your contacts, press the Menu button. Click Import/Export. Choose "Export to SD Card."

After your reset, follow the same steps and choose "Import from SD card."

Voila.
