Contact Facebook integration

Was curious if anyone found a way to manually associate a contact with a facebook friend. It has become a common trend lately that people aren't using their real names on faceboom (ie. FirstName MiddleName or FirstName MaidenName LastName). It appears these will not sync up properly. Anyone have any ideas?

Nevermind. It appears as long as you have their email address matching it works.

also i think if people have privacy settings on facebook you can not access their account. My girlfriend has hers all set to private and I cant even see who I am in a relationship with on the facebook app.

haha, i hope the facebook app gets updated soon.

from what i've experienced the app syncs by name. they have to be spelled EXACTLY the same in your address book and facebook.

there is another thread on here already about this but it looks as if contact name has to be exact as fascebook name. unsync then resync and it should work

Click on their facebook contact entry, then try and EDIT it. It will say you cannot edit facebook details, then hit the menu button again and you should seen an option that says "join". When you click that it will bring up your contact list and you can select the contact you want to merge the info with.

This only works if you are syncing ALL facebook contacts. This does not work if you are syncning facbook contacts that are already in your contact list. Again names must be the same.

How is the the other facebook app starts with a B?
I thought about downloading it but never did at all since I was not sure if it would be as integrated as the official facebook app that comes with OS 2.0.

Any suggestions?

My bad about that, didn't realize that that wouldn't work if you had only synced the current contacts.

i wish you could at least tell it to sync only certain groups instead.

but i guess it's still better than palms all or nothing setup

What i found works is this.

Turn on all contact sync.

Use the join feature to join the ones you need to.

Then turn off all contact sync again and you joins are still there.

So, this worked for me. Sort of...

I had four people in my facebook friends that did not auto-sync to the contact information in my Droid contacts. I used the above method, and with one of them everything worked perfectly. They show up in my contacts with the name I gave the contact and the facebook information is attached.

Three of the contacts are now showing up with the facebook names in my contact list, instead of what I had entered them as. I've tried editing the contact info, but it still always shows up with the facebook name.

Any ideas?

Sorry to drag this thread back from the dead... but I'm getting the same with my Nexus. Can't see why some contacts work OK and some of them use the FB name.

Is there any explanation to this?

Nope, That is the way it is designed... all my contacts do that too. for whatever reason it is set up to have Facebook name have precedence.

yeah I think due to the crazy names and fake numbers or all the unused email addresses, it would be best to just do it yourself.

I have the same exact problem. Most of my FB contacts sync and stay as last name, first name (the way I have them set up in gmail) and for some of the contacts FB overrides what I have in gmail. Can't figure out the damn difference though. I just unsynced the contacts I had problems with. Seems like a flaw in either the contacts app in android of the FB app. Not sure which.

Just to update anyone still interested...

Over at the Android bug report

someone worked out what's going on... when contacts are joined it chooses the alphabetically-latest name to display in the contacts list.

Seems to apply to Facebook and last.fm, so probably 'any' syncing account type.

So if someone is named Beth in the Google contact, Elizabeth on Facebook and Liz on last.fm you'll get Liz show up in your contact list.
