contact icon pictures

Yeah...let's get this back towards the top of the forum. I'm new to Android and I am really struggling with it after moving from the Palm Pre.

Like above poster, all of my contact icons are either blurry or the crop doesn't work correctly and the icon is a fraction of what it should be.

Is there a trick to getting the contact pics just right?

It's because the resolution is so low for such a big screen. The same pictures on the Incredible look perfect. I'm not sure there is a workaround for this. You'll notice that same pictures, when shrunk down in the Favorites bar, look perfect.

Yeah i noticed the crop is off.

A friend of mines facebook pic is him and his wife, and when he called me it cut him out and i was like "why is dudes wife calling me?" lol

The actual issue has to do with how Gmail stores contact images. It has been around for a few years, and has affected users of a wide variety of smartphones of various platforms and screen resolutions. Apparently, Gmail converts higher resolution images to a lower resolution, and those lower res images will sometimes replace the higher resolution images on your phone when it syncs with Gmail. On my Pre (and now my EVO), I just loaded a set of high resolution photos, and updated my contact images on my phone, and that did the trick. Unfortunately, I have to do this each time I doctored my Pre (to clean up my mess before major updates). Very annoying, to say the least. Hopefully, Google will someday bump up the size of their contact images.

Just bumping this up (was about to create a new thread til I found this one here); has anyone found a solution or an app that allows you to have higher-res pictures for contacts?

Or is it yet-another-annoyance we'll have to get used to. (chalk up another notch for webOS)
