Contact list has names from Yahoo account that show as "read only" so I can't delete

I store all my contacts in Gmail, and sync that account with my S3. All's well there.

However when I set up accounts on the phone, I also added a Yahoo! account which, at that time, also had a contact list. Unfortunately I did not uncheck the box to sync contacts with that account when I added it to the phone. Since then, I have deleted all contacts from the Yahoo account in Yahoo, but they remain in my S3 contact list. Many of them show icons for Gmail and Yahoo, and if I try to unlink and then delete the Yahoo version, I get a message that it is a read-only address and can only be hidden, not deleted. Of note, I added the Yahoo account through the Yahoo! Mail app from Play Store, not through the stock Android Email app.

I want to remove all references to the Yahoo version of the contacts. Is there a way to do that at this point?

Thank you.

Have you tried going into the apps list (the All tab) and clearing data for Contacts and Contacts Storage? Once that's done you can resync your phone with Google to get all of your original contacts back.

Have you tried to manually sync the Yahoo account now that you've deleted the contacts from the Yahoo web site? You should probably un-link them on the phone first, and then re-sync,

Thanks. I don't have my phone with me at the moment but will try your suggestion tonight and report back.

Thanks for the reply. Yes I did try a manual sync. I'm wondering if I delete the Yahoo Mail app, sync contacts, then re-add the app and re-add the offending account making sure not to check the Contact sync option, if that would do the trick. Anyway it's so frustrating and I hope one of these answers is the solution.

YOU ROCK! That did the trick! Thank you so much.

I have the same problem. My concern is that this will wipe out the contacts from where they are being synced with. for example I have contacts in microsoft exchange, gmail and yahoo. I don't really use the yahoo. The others seem to update in real time but yahoo doesn't seem to do that.
