Contacts App sorting

When I set up my GS3 a month ago, all my contacts from Gmail were synced to the phone without a problem. However, in my Gmail account, the contacts are sorted by LAST name and on my phone, they are sorted by FIRST name which is weird. Is there some way to sort the phone contacts by LAST name and if so, how do you do it?

That's the default. Go to the contact ap; then go to settings & you'll find the option to change it.

OK thanks.. I had looked at the menu before but didn't see the settings selection. This time I scrolled down further and found it so it's all good.

HI, Can you walk me through the step you did to get this to work? I'm new to the S3 and still trying to figure things out. I don't see any option under contact when I open it up. I'm using the contact apps that came with the phone. I would like to have last name first and not the first name.

Sure.. just tap Contacts>Menu button. Then you have to scroll further down in the menu to the bottom where it says "Settings" . On that menu you'll find a "List by" entry and you tap that to switch it to "Last name". Make sure you're in the Contacts not Favorites though otherwise you won't be able to scroll down to the Settings entry. I didn't realize it was there until I scrolled down and found it. Hope that helps.
