When I access my contacts from the dialer, they are all present and accounted for. However today I was trying to sync my dentist (in my contact list) with an appointment in my calendar. That contact would not show up. Infact it seemed like most of my recently added contacts were unavailable to the calendar app. I have sync turned on. Why might I not be seeing all my contacts?

have you double checked your sync settings? I've run into problems occasionally with my Galaxy Nexus not syncing everything. Most times if I go to my Google account and toggle sync off and back on it solves it. Worst case I've had to do is simply remove my google account and re-add it to force sync.

Other then that I don't know what to say....

This (posted on the Samsung Galaxy S4 thread) worked to fix the problem:

You need to copy all contacts to SIM card first and then it will let you Sync them to GOOGLE
1) Go to CONTACTS
2) Under CONTACTS menu press SIM MANAGEMENT
3) Press COPY CONTACTS TO SIM
4) Press DONE
5) Under CONTACTS menu press SIM MANAGEMENT
6) Press COPY CONTACTS FROM SIM
7) Select GOOGLE xxx@gmail.com
8) Press DONE
9) Under CONTACTS menu press SIM MANAGEMENT
10) Press DELETE CONTACTS FROM SIM (This will delete all duplicates in your Contact list)
11) Press DELETE

I wonder if I will have to do this each time I add a contact?

I just always went to setting>accounts>google>contacts and manually synced it and calander as well

from my wonderfully rooted gs4 woot
