CONTEST: Exercise MY way -- how I use my Android phone or tablet to stay in shape!

I use MyFitness Pal on my Droid Charge, which allows me to count my calories, view how many calories I am intake in what I eat daily. Simply by typing in the food I ate and finding the right entry (which there are tons of entries by past and present MyFitness Pal app users), then seeing how quickly my calorie intake rises. Or, even better, instead of searching for the specific food or snack or drink you just consumed, and entering it manually, you can scan the barcode of what ever you are consuming, and the app will automatically enter it. I.e. I ate a Turkey Sandwich with Olive Oil Mayonnaise. I scan the barcode on the bread package and it enters the serving size along with the calories per seriving size and any other nutritional information. I also scan the package of the turkey and it enters the serving size of the turkey and its caloric values. Now, considering you are eating the suggested serving size, then its a one scan job. If you ate more than the serving size, the app allows you to change the serving size AND the pieces or amount of whatever it is you ate or drank. Its really simple to use.

Also, the app allows you to enter any and all workouts. If you can't locate anything in the app such as Foods, snacks, workouts... You can enter one manually along with all the nutritional values. Other than that, this is the only app I use for tracking my fitness. I have both P90X and Insanity and I am currenlty doing P90X- AGAIN!

If there was anything I miss or if you have any questions to what I wrote and/or about the MyFitness Pal app (FREE), please feel free and shoot my a Reply. Thanks. I hope this helps. *Oh, one more thing. For music to get you pumped up and motivated, I use the FREE app, TuneIn. You can locate any radio station you like. You can find that one great radio station from your home town or any local stations. You can even locate certain genres or podcasts. Of course, there is Pandora also. Good luck.

Last year my wife and I joined a gym and our fitness journey began. I was about 20 pounds over weight, had moderate hypertension, and my cholesterol was out of control. At first we tried several different small and large group classes and worked every muscle group. In the end the only class both my wife and I could comfortably do together was a cycle spinning class. We ended up on a great schedule and do cycle spinning 3 to 4 times a week. To my surprise we have continued this schedule for almost a year now.

I?m a firm believer that if you set a goal it must be achievable, and measurable.

My goal:

For 2013, I set a goal for myself to accumulate over 2755 miles spinning and riding my bicycles. This is the distance Google came up with for a trip from New York City to San Diego. I?ve dubbed this challenge the ?Virtual Bike Ride Across America?

Is my goal achievable?

Time will tell, but I believe with consistent work it is

Is my goal measurable?

Yes! This is where my Android devices come into play.

To track my hours in spinning class and the miles I actually ride on my bicycle, I use a MotoActv device. This is basically a small Android powered GPS/MP3/Fitness tracker made by Motorola that interfaces with my Android Smart Phone. It has the ability to track running, walking and cycling by pace, distance calories burned and heart rate. This little power house of a device also lets me stay connected during my workouts by showing me incoming texts, and calls by interfacing with my android smart phone.

I use Google Drive to keep a spreadsheet synced with all of my devices and computers tracking the total distance of each bike ride along with an accumulated grand total. As of my last work out I have accumulated 451.42 miles! I also use the Mobile Blogger application on my phone and tablet to chronicle my adventures on my Virtual Bike Ride Across America. (blog link in my signature)

Using my Android devices is a fun and interesting way to track my progress and keep me interested in my workouts.

As a result of working out consistently for over a year, I am now at my target weight, my hypertension is under control and my cholesterol levels are well into the normal range.

EVO 4G LTE, MyFitnessPal, Endomondo, RunDoubleC25KPRO, HIIT interval training, plus music to keep me going of course. My phone is with me every step of the way. Plus I have these other apps that I do to keep me on pace for squats/pull ups/push ups/sit ups. Yep, my phone is my trainer. 50 pounds lost so far!

Edit: You mean I have to write this like a normal person and not like a forum post? haha I'll come back and clean this up later. :-D

Recently, I got a Fitbit and I'm loving it. I wish the Fitbit app for Android sync'd the fitbit with my Razr, but it doesn't, as of yet. I know that Android syncing is in the works. It does update my app when I sync with my computer. And the app is perfect for everything else, inputing calorie intake and what kind of exercises I did that day. Fitbit keeps track for everything that affects my fitness goals, calorie intake, calories burned, and even sleep schedules. I've thus far, lost about 7 lbs in 3 weeks and I'm on my way to my goal. Fitbit also keeps a log and you can post your daily log onto Facebook and Twitter. It also let's you set weight goals, body fat goals, and other goals, even let's you personalize your tabs. And when you set goals, it'll show you the steps to help get you to the goal, calorie intake and calories burned. Here's mine from yesterday: Fitbit Profile

I'm loving my fitbit thus far.

I use My Tracks to keep track of my daily walks with my dog. It tells me my speed, location, distance, and saves it all, basically all I need in a tracking app. It's simple with a record button and stop button as the main features, but has tabs to show stats and map location/route.

I also downloaded Workout Trainer by Skimble, but I haven't used it enough to really know what it's worth, plus, I'd rather not pay for it all.

EDIT: I started using RunKeeper and it's great! It syncs with Neufit, which is an invite-only (for now) fitness community (I have 5 invites is anyone is interested!). It also syncs with a lot of services that sync with my fitbit, so that's a great thing for keeping fit and having social communities to help with it! I think I've signed up for way too many services, but it's fun so far: Earndit, Healthy Month, and Neufit for starters.

I used the website SparkPeople.com to develop personal nutrition plans and exercise plan, all for free. There are great articles on everything fitness related written by experts and a huge community aspect. It's actually the largest online weight loss community. They have Android (and iPhone) apps for tracking your food, water, exercise, and weight. And there's a separate healthy recipe app. Tracking food when on the go is a big help. (It's hard to remember hours later when you're at a computer.) And I love to use the recipe app when shopping in the grocery store. There's also an inspirational quote app and a produce app.

I'd definitely recommend SparkPeople to everyone. Apps are linked below.

I use my Samsung Galaxy S2 everyday on my bike rides. I use Cardio Trainer to track my rides and play music. I use my fitness pal to track my intake.

I have been playing with Endomondo a bit and running it on my tablet while I am spinning on my indoor trainer and comparing it to Cardio Trainer. I am also checking out Garmin Fit. Just always trying to find the best Option.

So far with using my phone to track my workouts and intake I have lost almost 100 pounds.

I use the Loseit! app to track my calorie intake and also use Endomondo Pro for bike rides and runs.

I use Endomondo + the Zephyr HxM to track my workouts.
Currently doing Archery and running (separately ofcourse). I'm planning on picking up insanity to go with the workout and combine that together.
the Zephyr and Endomondo seem to work pretty darn well and shows how my heart rate as I ran so I can tell if I'm trying too hard or not hard enough. It also helps me judge my performance as I do my workout so I can tell if i'm slacking off or not on each given workout.

I also hook it up to my plantronics backbeats 903+ for music playback at the same time. so far the sgs3 doesn't have a problem handling the hrm and bluetooth headset at the same time.

I use my MotoACTV for my daily steps and for real time data on my runs. I use Nike+ for my runs on my Note 2. I also use the 100 pushups app on my Nexus 7.

I use endomondo on windows phone 7.8 but i know it's not the best. i was using runkeeper on my old android and that app performed better.

The following the phone apps I use are:
- Map My Run
- Map My Ride
- Fm Radio
- Google maps
- Split calculator
- Bodbot

When I go running on a new route map my run is handy as it gets the gps location of where I go, distance, pace time etc, similar to map my ride exactly the same except its now obsolete as i bought a new bike computer. My Fm radio acts as my music as well when my hard drive broke all my music went with it. I actually don't mind it. My earphones broke today so its not working too well hearing wise so the win might be handy for that. Google Maps. Helpful when you get lost. Now for Split Calculators. It calculates the averages per 500m I have to hold for rowing for my goal times, even though when worried I do like to draw out a time table of a bad time split and its final result to a world record result just to kill nerves. Now for Bodbot, while I am wishing to get fit again to commence the new season - I didn't want to jump into the national season unfit so I am waiting till club season, it programs the amount of cardio/weights i should be doing. You select what equipment you have, time, sessions etc and it makes a work out for you.

I've lost 25 lbs in less than a year using MyFitnessPal, MapMyRide & MapMyRun, and most recently Nike+ (for indoor running) on my GS3. MFP helped me realize how many calories I was actually eating and pair that down to reasonable portions. The others keep me on target during runs / rides while motivating me with my favorite running songs. Can't wait to try them out in my first Half-Marathon in a month! I never had a much desire to get healthier but when you combine a little desire with cool technology it almost makes it fun... A gym membership doesn't hurt either!

I use my Droid Bionic to track food and exercise and entertain while working out. I use SportsTracker when I?m walking or biking. I listen to podcasts on double Twist or Pandora. Then I use the SparkPeople app to track food and anerobic exercise.
My next purchase will be a set of Bluetooth headphones, the LG Tone Wireless Bluetooth Stereo Headset, from Amazon. My wife has a set of these and loves the fit and sound quality.

Good luck on your exercise journey!

I use cardio trainer to track my walks and runs and also use my fitness pal to log calories eaten and calories lost. Great combo.
