Contract vs Payment Plans vs 2nd hand

So I'm looking into a new phone (V10 I think thru Verizon). I have 3 options at the moment. 1. buy it though carrier @ $572 ($23.83/mo) with the special, with this I can choose the color I prefer (white). With this one there is no upgrade free ($20) or activation fee ($40) 2. buy it thru a 2 yr contract for $1.00 (black only). 3. Buy 2nd hand in new or mint condition. Which option makes the best sense, cost wise over a course of say 2 yrs (i keep my phones for as long as possible)?

If you factor in the monthly charges for service for each of your 3 options, what is your total cost after 2 years? Usually, the 2-year contract has higher monthly service charge than if you use a fully paid off phone.

Just my opinion... I would buy a Mint or better on Swappa. I have bought my last "new" phone. They certainly charge a pretty penny for these boxes of technology, and as fast as we swap them out, it can get pretty expensive. I bought Mint phones for the wife and kid, and I'm getting ready to buy a used V10. I like to change my phone often, so buying new is a big loss for me. I can live a 6 month old phone for half the cost.
