Controlling / Accessing phone from a computer

Let's pretend you lose your phone. Is there a program that could run in the background on your phone that you could somehow access from a computer and disable the phone? Or parts of it? A program that locks applications (i.e. App lock) would be perfect if it could be turned on when you need it, instead of all the time. I like app lock but I hate having to type a 4 digit code everytime I want to read a notification or message.
