AC Question
I have a Samsung Note 5, and I am trying to get it to broadcast as a hotspot as both 2.4 and 5 frequencies.
My computer has a Rosewill Dual-Band Wireless N Adapter it can support both bands.
My hotspot can send in both bands.
My Amazon firestick and iPad can handle both.
My Chromecast, Wireless Printer, and Kindle reader can only deal with 2.4.
Most of the cell phones in the house (four I believe) can all support 5.
I suppose the first question anyone would ask me is 'Why not just leave it on 2.4 and forget it?' I seem to be doing better gaming on the 5 band, but it could be just perception.
Won't I be afraid of wearing out the battery if it is always throwing two signals out there? Yah.
So, what is my ultimate goal in this adventure?
It started as a 'can I even do it...' and has turned into more of a 'roommate want to share my hotspot, but since I foot the bill, they can have a tiiiiny amount of bandwidth but not at the cost of my speed.'
So yes, I realize neither situation is entirely related. Partly because I was in a similar situation where a roommate had a PS4 and his 2.4 connection was blowing everyone's internet up so my easy fix was to just flip off his radio band. (yes there are nicer and more elegant ways.. shutting him down at 4am while he was drunkenly screaming at Destiny was far more fun..)
Anyhow, advice? I feel like the answer is 'stick with 2.4 and forget it..' Which I'm okay with I just which I had a method to limit certain MAC addresses to my Note 5 hot spot to a very limited amount of bandwith.
Apologies for mixing two topics in one.
