Convert Verizon Note 2 to Sprint

Hello all, I apologize profusely in advance, as I am sure I am asking a question that's been covered many times before. I ask your indulgence in this, as I know very little about the smartphone terms I am seeing like, "flash" and "root." Anyway I am hoping you all can help a fellow out with a simple step by step procedure to perform what I've proposed in the subject line. Basically I am tired of shoveling money to Verizon and with my contract coming to an end in Nov, wish to convert my Note 2 to the Sprint network and get on board with them. I've talked with friends who've left Verizon in my area and it seems Sprint network is comparable in terms of coverage at much less cost. So, what I'm going to do is get a new Note 4 for myself, give my [converted] Note 2 to my wife and say bye-bye Verizon. Thanks!!
