Converted mp4 won't play

Ok I spent a whole day trying various conversion tools, many settings including the specified Samsung presets, trying to get my .avi files to play on my note 10.1, converting them to .mp4 or .mkv or h.264 I think it is. Nothing is working, but my iPhone and iPad mini plat them perfect! Wtf?! I have to use the standard seagate player app thing too so vlc player won't work for me.

I just tried watching my movies I ripped with Handbrake. Movies were originally ripped to watch on my iPad or MacBook Pro while traveling. Plugged in my Note 10.1 and I am able to watch them fine. I just realized how awesome it is to have front facing speakers. Movies were saved as MP4/M4V and each movie was anywhere from 850MB to 1.2GB each.

Vlc player is a great app give that a try its free from the play store
