Last week my family moved. Second damn time in three months. I know, that's short, but gotta do what you gotta do. We lived in one valley for five years and we have had the same phone numbers for all five of those years. So, since we moved three hours away we thought it would be worth it to change area codes. In doing that, we needed new Sims sent to us from Verizon. So, we have them send them and we get them. I call and have Verizon change our numbers. I have both phones powered off when I call. When instructed, I put my Sims in and boot the phone. Lady tells me that after ten minutes they should work, and we hang up. Twelve tries later, the phones won't activate and I call Verizon back. Seems I fried the Sims some how and need to trade them out at a vzw corporate store. We head there and they can trade out my wife's phone sim and it works, but my phone won't have the number change until midnight for some reason. So, we have to come back the next day. Ah, but okay, whatever. While I am there the next day I see the car mount I had my eye on... its only 29.99, and I am getting ready to drive from Salt Lake City to Lubbock Texas. So, I pick one up! Good market ting messing up my sim card vzw! Lol
O:-)
Now, that was the back story. Today, I begin my trip. I forgot to grab my car dock, but remember just before leaving. As I remember, my wife is also leaving and going to meet me at a gas station to file me up on her card before we part ways. She leaves, and I send my 9 year old in to grab the car dock. Understanding that if my wife finds out she is waiting on me because I wanted to put my car dock in she will not be mad, but she will make fun of me ruthlessly. So, I don't have much time! Dang if this thing didn't actually install in about two minutes! I was stoked. Click the bionic in and we are off. GPS running. I use Google maps navigator and I put the satellite layer in so I can see cool things as I drive. Really I guess I don't know why I put the satellite image up, but I love it, so I keep it. Anyway, I got to the gas station fast enough that I didn't get picked on. Whew!

Now, for the drive start. Driving down the 6 highway across east Utah is really mountainous and really turn heavy. Guess what... it was dark when I got there too. Yay for me! But there was a cool thing. This was the first time I had used Google navigation while being able to see the screen at a quick glance because of where the car mount was. It was awesome to quickly check the few miles forward that we could see. It was nice to see a sharp turn coming up and know I had to be ready to slow down. And, one time when I had to pee I was able to see there was a road turn out coming up and I was able to slow and turn down that road and stop my truck and pee! It was really cool there in the middle of know where because of how many stars I could see. The only place I have seen more stars was on the deck of an aircraft carrier at sea at 2 am during lights out periods. I suggest that everyone some day go to the middle of no where in Utah and take a look at the stars in a clear night. So, back in the truck the road seems to straighten out. I reached up and turn my screen off, makes it easier to see at night. In the end I got here with my Bionic showing me where to go and that car dock is straight sweet. So, tomorrow as me and the three kids bite off a 8 hour drive, we will have my bionic up and running the whole time. Can't wait for the bionic part. Long drives blow, but the bionic and car dock will be fun.

Night AC! Enjoy my story,

I traveled all the way through Utah into Idaho last week. It is probably the most beautiful terrain I've ever seen.

I had my Bionic in a universal windshield mount giving navigation the whole way.

And today, the adventure continues!

So, I drove from green river Utah to Albuquerque today. I am a huge football fan, usually in my truck, I listen to Sirius NFL radio. I settled my Bionic into the car doc, checked the kids were all in right and got my GPS fix and began the drive. Looking forward to the drive with the car dock I was really happy to get underway. About at the end of the first hour of listening to NFL radio, I was ready to kill someone if I heard the name of Tim teebow again. I was sitting there, stuck in the truck for 7more hours wondering what the hell I was going to listen to because NFL teebow radio was not gonna cut it today. Then it hit me,, my wife listens to audio books all the time on her phone from audible.com. maybe I would get lucky and there might be freaking one that wasn't a chick book! After all, both my wife and I are former Marines, I kit get lucky! So, while driving, I pull up audible and see that she has a book about a SEAL sniper from SEAL team six. I was blown away with my luck. I knew I was about to drive through the desert and didn't know how much data coverage I would have. So, I started the download. A minute later, the play button appeared. I had all my kids in the truck, so, not knowing how much a SEAL sniper would reveal, I decided to put on my Bluetooth headset and start listening. By the time I had stopped for gas about an hour later, I had enough data coverage to download both parts of my book! Good book, read or listen to it. The dude reading it has a really appropriate voice!

Another thing that happened during the drive was I got a text. Cool feature I didn't know about was the screen while in the car dock popped up a notification and said aloud, you have a new text message, to hear it, say listen. I was shocked, but said LISTEN and it read me a message from my wife. Using voice controls I sent her one back. Later, when she responded, it read that to me too. Really cool way to get a text.

GPS is accurate, found a walmart along the way for me. And found a taco bell for dinner. Now, of I could only get a 500 dollar app like that dude from crack berry, my phone can even take the place of my watch!

I got a car dock for mine, but have yet to find a good place to mount it in my car, I'm thinking about making a little mount that fits in my cup holder because that seems to be the easiest place for me to reach it at the moment. That's actually my dad's car though, my VW's windshield is close enough for me to mount it straight on the windshield.
Anyways, funny you mention Utah and Idaho, I'm moving to Idaho for college in a few months lol. I'll most likely be using my dock quite a lot during that time.

Coming to join us in Boise or some other Idaho college?

Thanks you for the uplifting positive stories! I love hearing how people are using their Bionics, give it some Kudos! :D The car doc is great, the Motorola Roadster Bluetooth In-Car Speakerphone is another terrific investment, also does the reading of text and FM transmitter so you can stream from your phone.

Oh I like that speakerphone thing. I like that it can stream onto FM for you! My drive was awesome after listening to books, but the Bluetooth headset eventually died, I would hope that the speakerphone would have more battery time... maybe not... I wonder now... but anyway, streaming on FM would mean that more than one person can listen.

I was accepted to BYU-Idaho...so that's in Rexburg lol.

I live just south of Provo Utah now, that's BYU normal I was thinking about going to BYU but I am not shaving, plus my wife says I would eventually offend everyone!

My wife's dad used to teach economics at BYU Idaho! Back when it was Ricks College. Pretty sure it was still a church school back then with just a different name.

BasPilot, thanks for the adventures. I live in Phoenix and get to travel our mountain roads ever so often and it is a beautiful day when you can.

Keep it up.:)

So you know going forward....if you have to change your phone nu her you don't need to replace the SIM card. I had to change my number and didn't have a problem. Called Verizon from a landline and within 10 minutes had my new number activated. Sorry you had such issues

Get this... there's a guy on the Motorola Xoom forums that has taken his Bionic's card out of his Bionic and put it in his Xoom and it worked straight away, then he put it back in the Bionic and it worked straight away... I was like... HUH?!?!

Anyway, I don't have much story to tell about the way back, but everything did work again on the way back. Really, the same stuff... I downloaded another book and stuff, but nothing important to tell. It was nice to have the Bionic working well when we hit a snow storm in southern Utah that really added about 5 hours to our drive and we ended the day, bouncing between mine and my wife's Bionics and finished off with an 18 hour drive day. We DID have extra batteries fully charged that we did end up needing when my car charger decided to take a dive on me. Then we finally got a new one and got all the phones back up again... Anyway, it was a good day!

I got my Bionic at the local Sam's Club and the car dock was included in the price that was $25 less than the Verizon store a mile away.

I too was taken by surprise when my first text arrived. My wife has the Samsung EVO and a Blackberry and thinks my newly purchased (upgraded from Samsung Intensity) is cool.

I am just discovering many built in features since the paper user's guide is very limited and basic. This forum is the best source to dig deep into the phone and various apps.
