Cool story about my Gear S...

aitt, couldn't have said it better myself. I do the gym 3-4 times a week and love leaving my Note 4 in the car. Beyond that, it's just right for leaving the Note in my pocket as notifications come in. The features are almost just right for me....Sammy did a great job not loading it up with useless features and apps...IMO.

Great responses. Especially about making it do too much. I too am in and out of the office walking into the shop and forget my phone. So I see the benny there. At the gym 5 days a week and if wasn't for the fact that I have my workouts recorded on my phone I could definitely see leaving the device in the car. However I don't want to start to get so dependent on the watch that the one time I really need my phone, I forget and end up leaving it out of habit. Obviously and ultimately its a personal taste and I wanted some input from other users. Thank you

No one feeling like maybe the watch is too much? I love it but then I think when am I really going to be without my note? The times I am, I probably don't need the notifications either lol. Just wondering what the thoughts are of those of us who have it.

I use my gear 2 neo, when I go bike riding (with phone) but it will be nice to leave the phone at home. I Chaperone my sons band, and my phone is usually in my back pack, when it's cold it's great to look at my arm only. Driving (only for calls). Even in my home, 3 stories phone drops connection some time on different levels, I usually use bluetooth in my ear when walking around. But this will work for me.

I only need for make/receive phone calls, send/reply to text. I presently use s voice, but when around people I'd like the privacy to send it.

I'm excited but still deciding. Battery life is one thing, but with the rechargeable pack thingy, may make it worth it. And I carry around extra batteries for my phone, I'll use the 50% promo code they always give to get two extra battery thingys for my watch. I'm slowly talking myself into it.

I have horses. Never fails my husband or kids call me while I am handling or riding the horses. So nice to leave the phone out of the way, but still be reachable.

I agree. I can't always be near my phone and don't always want to have to pull it out. I like that I can see whether or not a notification requires response. Especially at work.

Guys you are making it hard.... I'm trying to be good and wait for my birthday, but this is hard. I WANT this watch....

Can you tell me the battery life if using the watch by itself. I've seen others commenting but they were doing different things. Have you used it by itself while it was NOT remotely connected? And if so then it uses the Gear S number correct?

Reesh if you got a text off your phone to your gear when you weren't near it does that mean you forwarded it to your gear from your watch? As I'm guessing it did it via 3G or wifi?

If it's not connected via Bluetooth how does it connect? Does your gear have the same number as on your phone?

I'm getting one via contract from O2 but I'm on a different network on my phone can I still get calls and texts to my phone?

I don't use it standalone at all so I don't really know. Personally with moderate use, from 100% I may get a day.

When I'm remotely connected I still get texts. The gear number shows up when making calls but the calls to my phone get forwarded to my watch after like 20 seconds. The gear number only shows up during remote connection outgoing calls. Remote connection texts show my cell number. But when someone texts the gear number and you respond on the gear, the gear number comes up. I just tested all these theories. Very different setup this remote connection...

If you text from your Gear would it basically be from your phone number?

It depends. If someone texts your gear number when you respond it will be gear number. If you get a text to your phone number it will be your phone number when you respond.

I only use my Gear S standalone (no other phone at all). I get two days of normal use for me out of it. One day should be easy and two days using the battery back should be doable for most, but why not just charge it each night and make life easy. Even a heavy user "should" get a day out of it with the battery back IMHO. Things like streaming music or playing music constantly from the watch will likely drain it much faster (see the battery life thread). A car charger is another option if you are concerned.

i have mine set for bluetooth, and when it is out of range, it then switches to remote connection, so, just in case i forget or don't feel like bringing my phone, i still won't miss any notifications or texts, emails, etc. i didn't enable the call forwarding, but, if i did, then i wouldn't miss a phone call either.
